As a Visitor Services Representative, you'll serve as a welcoming ambassador for the Nasher Museum-creating meaningful first impressions, supporting accessibility and inclusion, and helping visitors connect with art, ideas, and one another. You'll collaborate closely with museum professionals and expert art educators while building your own knowledge of modern and contemporary art in a vibrant cultural setting.

What You'll Do

Deliver an Exceptional Visitor Experience



  • Welcome guests with warmth and professionalism, serving as the primary point of contact for museum visitors.
  • Introduce visitors to exhibitions, events, and museum amenities with clear, accurate, and engaging information.
  • Proactively engage guests, respond to questions, and communicate museum policies and offerings.
  • Support accessibility by assisting visitors with special needs or limited mobility, ensuring comfort, safety, and inclusive access.
  • Operate the museum golf cart to assist visitors traveling between the parking area and the museum.
  • Handle phone inquiries, assist walk-in groups or tours, and notify appropriate staff of VIP visits.
  • Model professionalism in appearance, communication, and performance at all times.


Support Front Desk Operations



  • Perform daily opening and/or closing procedures, preparing the galleries and visitor desk with required supplies and materials.
  • Accurately record daily attendance using AudienceView or other tracking systems.
  • Collect, organize, and submit visitor surveys and guest feedback.
  • Review staff calendars, tour notes, and event updates to stay informed each shift.
  • Maintain a tidy, welcoming visitor desk and communicate scheduling needs or time-off requests according to established procedures.


Promote Programs & Engage in Learning



  • Support museum initiatives by assisting with tours, programs, events, memberships, and surveys in collaboration with Marketing, Development, Education, Public Programs, and Community Engagement teams.
  • Participate in ongoing staff and exhibition training, including artist research, material review, and tour shadowing.
  • Assist senior staff with Visitor Services activities as needed, contributing to a collaborative front-of-house team.

Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of grammar and math for routine clerical and data-entry tasks
  • Valid driver's license with successful Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check


Preferred Experience



  • One year of customer service or hospitality experience

  • Awareness of accessibility needs and inclusive service practices
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and resourceful in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and visitor management systems (AudienceView experience a plus)
  • Basic data entry and record-keeping skills
  • Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Spanish is a plus

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $22.84. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
