Job Title: Network Automation Engineer

Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid (2-3 days on site at Contractor Site)

Clearance: Active Secret Clearance - TS/SCI Preferred

Employment Type: Full-Time

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physical Science from an accredited institution.

Overview

Metronome is seeking a Network Automation Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of Navy network solutions aligned with advanced modernization efforts.

The candidate should have strong hands-on experience with enterprise networking, SD-WAN/SDN technologies, and network automation - with a particular emphasis on Ansible-driven automation, Cisco networking, and Palo Alto firewall configuration.

This role supports next-generation Navy network architectures and requires a balance of traditional network engineering and modern NetDevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design and engineering of Navy's network architecture

  • Develop network topologies, subnetting strategies, and IP addressing plans based on system and mission requirements

  • Configure, implement, and maintain SD-WAN / SDN solutions across enterprise environments

  • Perform hands-on configuration of Cisco routers/switches and Palo Alto firewalls in mission environments

  • Develop and maintain network automation pipelines using Ansible, including playbooks, roles, and reusable automation frameworks

  • Utilize Git repositories for version control and management of network automation code

  • Create detailed technical documentation including network diagrams, architecture designs, and test plans

Required Skills

6+ years of experience engineering IT systems supporting DoD or Government agencies
Strong hands-on experience with subnetting, IP addressing, and enterprise network design
Deep experience working in command line interfaces (CLI) for network configuration and troubleshooting
Proven experience configuring Cisco networking equipment (routers/switches)
Hands-on experience configuring and managing Palo Alto firewalls
Strong experience building and maintaining Ansible automation pipelines (playbooks, roles, automation workflows)
Experience using Git repositories for version control of infrastructure and network automation code
Certifications
Required: CCNP (or equivalent networking certification)
