Team Member

  • Secure labor pre-conditions by maintaining the labor board, track daily absences, organize work assignments and alert the Supervisor to source absence coverage to ensure optimal production flow
  • Monitor and respond to ad hoc labor gaps by securing short-term relief or reassigning work assignments to cover and maintain production
  • Check the production schedule and develop daily work assignments based on rotation schedules and andon processes for labor issues
  • Provide short-term coverage in the work area, back-filling team members on a variety of equipment and stations when labor gaps arise
  • Assign tablet lockers and provide support and troubleshooting for tablet issues that may arise
  • Provide individual or team feedback and coaching to address any abnormalities or quality issues, and track progress to measure results
  • Motivate, encourage and reward team members for their achievements
  • Coach and mentor team members in the work area and offer constructive feedback on expected behaviors, quality and productivity, escalating performance/behavior concerns to the Supervisor for corrective action and terminations

Method

  • Secure production pre-conditions using the 4Ms, 5S, SIPS and change point management board, preparing and resourcing the line in the areas of material, machine and method to ensure smooth production flow throughout the shift
  • Recommend, create and implement new, and influence improved standardized work documents that establish clear quality standards, limit production loss and aid the achievement of production output targets
  • Machine
  • Check and coordinate the calibration of machinery and tools to ensure adherence to the required standards
  • Respond to Andon alerts to rapidly contain and resolve abnormalities including initiating line stops, implementing fixes, communicating directives with team members or escalating to the Supervisor as required
  • Material
  • Maintain the build schedule ensuring enough build plan is available to complete the shift, and is communicated to team members in the work area
  • Monitor material consumption to anticipate stockout conditions and notify the Material group or conveyance operator if required

Delivery

  • Monitor and track production hourly vs target, capturing and maintaining production/quality/safety abnormalities and data on the hour x hour Production KPI Board to inform problem-solving and escalate issues to the Supervisor as needed
  • Review CSP and OoB data to identify recurring issues, implement fixes and escalate more serious/complex issues to the Supervisor as needed
  • Continually communicate and update the team on daily shift progress, process and team member changes, and production fixes promptly
  • Quality
  • Support the Supervisor with planning and running weekly quality meetings, preparing data, reports or other information in support of quality topics
  • Follow scheduled audit processes and conduct regular ad hoc visual inspections to identify abnormality, monitoring and coaching adherence to standardized work
  • Identify downstream defects and prepare non-conformance reports for quality issues and deviations, escalating complex issues to the Supervisor
  • Safety
  • Champion safety in the work area, leading/participating in daily safety meetings, identifying daily safety topics, applying safety procedures, identifying potential hazards and introducing preventative measures that maintain a safe working environment
  • Immediately notify and escalate near misses and safety incidents to the Supervisor and support the completion of relevant paperwork
  • Distribute and wear appropriate PEE including safety goggles, gloves and hearing protection

Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or participate in 4 Step Problem-Solving (4SPS) A3's to investigate root causes, implement corrective actions and monitor solutions, escalating to the Supervisor as required
  • Conduct time observations in support of the creation of and adherence to standardized work documents
  • Lead or participate in Kaizen events to identify and implement rapid improvements to maintain the flow of the work area
  • Maintain the 4SPS tracking board, log abnormalities that impact area performance on the "Problems to solve" list, and use the four square problem prioritization chart to evaluate and prioritize problem-solving initiatives for the area
  • Use production data to analyze and identify problems and opportunities for improvement, and participate in documenting and tracking initiatives on the CI Opportunity Board
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor and cross-functional teams (e.g., Leadership, Engineering, Design, Quality, Materials Management and Maintenance) to build support for high-priority and payoff problem-solving and continuous improvement activities

Training & Development

  • Support the Supervisor with planning and scheduling team member development by creating training timetables, coordinating training priorities, updating work element logs and flagging development needs for the team
  • Create/update JIB's based on standardized work documents to support the growth and development of team members in the work area
  • Support Trainers to conduct training to JIB's and standardized work using One-Best-Way and 4-Steps of Instruction methods as required
  • Leadership
  • Shadow the Supervisor for professional development where appropriate including, interviews, creating job requisitions, performance reviews, job relations issues, terminations, workforce planning, Work Element (WE) certification, tracking AIP for All and in Kaizen events
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules

Additional Functions:

  • Assist the Supervisor to plan, organize and co-lead startup and other team meetings
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with others
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience

Preferred:

  • Electrical or Mechanical Trade Certificate

Required:

  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a production/manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of fabrication and assembly processes and machinery
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
  • Knowledge of quality control methodologies and ability to use QA instruments
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and high regard for people by treating them with dignity, respect, fairness, and consistency
  • Application of shop math for manufacturing applications (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and fractions)
  • Able to read and work to drawings, schematics, bill of materials and standard work specifications/processes
  • Able to use a variety of department-specific hand, power and pneumatic tools
  • Well-developed listening skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a multi-lingual workforce through verbal and written communication
  • Use of analytical and reasoning skills to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Use of planning and organization methods to coordinate resources and the operations of the work area, juggling several tasks according to priority
  • Attention to detail and process orientation to perform precise tasks and follow well-defined instructions, procedures and policies
  • Proficient computer skills including use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of key S&C manufacturing tools and programs including lean principles, 5S, standardized work, SIPS, 4SPS etc.
  • Foundational leadership capabilities with the ability to build mutual respect and trust, resolve conflict, moderate behaviours and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience
  • Able to provide clear and direct instructions on work procedures, deliver feedback and engage with stakeholders across various departments and levels
  • Proficient in prioritizing, directing and delegating work
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical hands-on approach in support of identifying the root cause, developing solutions, spotting patterns/trends and influencing positive change through opportunities for improvement
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and assessment methods with an ability to convey complex concepts simply and understandably and establish a positive learning environment
  • Decision-making capabilities with an ability to make balanced and informed decisions that help S&C achieve business goals
  • Experience using Oracle or other ERP systems
