Ever-Green Energy is looking for a team member to perform maintenance and repairs to ensure reliable uninterrupted distribution of steam and hot water to customer's buildings. This is an International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 70 represented position. Duluth Energy Systems is the City-owned steam plant that has provided the Canal Park and Central Business Districts with stable, reliable heat since 1932. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to the use of a respirator; climbing ramps/stairs; climbing ladders/ropes/scaffolding; crawling; crouching; far visual acuity with clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; fine manipulation by picking, pinching; or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in gross manipulation; gross manipulation by seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hands; kneeling; lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.; near vision acuity with clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less; peripheral vision by observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point; pushing; pulling; reaching at/below shoulder level by extending hand and arms from 0 up to 150 degrees in a vertical arc; reaching overhead by extending hands and arms in a 150 to 180 degrees vertical arc; stooping and confined space with limited entry or exit. The employee is occasionally required to foot/leg controls; keyboarding, and sitting. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position involves working in a steam, hot water, and/or chilled water plant and/or its distribution system. While performing job duties, employees may occasionally encounter potential hazards, including fumes, airborne particles, high-pressure steam in piping or equipment, both hot and cold temperatures, and hazards associated with moving machinery. The work environment's noise level typically ranges from moderate to loud. Other potential hazards common to heating and cooling plants may include confined spaces, slippery surfaces, rotating equipment, chemical handling (e.g., water treatment chemicals), and burns. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and physical controls are in place as needed to mitigate these risks. Our crews work with the public in a positive manner, work together as a team, are dependable, and have a sound work ethic. It is important for the person in this position to maintain that level of integrity. This is a union position with an hourly pay of $27.25.
