Production Laborer

Ever-Green Energy is looking for a team member to perform maintenance and repairs to ensure reliable uninterrupted distribution of steam and hot water to customer's buildings. This is an International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 70 represented position.

Duluth Energy Systems is the City-owned steam plant that has provided the Canal Park and Central Business Districts with stable, reliable heat since 1932. The Duluth energy system provides heating to 165 buildings in Canal Park and downtown Duluth.

Minimum requirements to be successful in this role:

• State of Minnesota Special Stationary Engineer's license Special License or must take and pass the test within 6 months of starting the position.
• Possess a valid driver's license and have a clear driving record.
• Requires a basic knowledge in and an aptitude for mechanical repair and maintenance.

Preferred requirements:

• Plumbing, pipefitting or HVAC experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist with the maintenance and repair of high- and low-pressure steam valves, pipes, steam traps and other steam system components under the supervision of the foreman and distribution system technicians.

1. Assist with the maintenance and repair of hot water valves, pipes, heat exchangers and other hot water system components under the supervision of the foreman and distribution system technicians.

1. Assist with the maintenance and repair of chillers, chilled water valves, pipes, heat exchangers and other chilled water system components under the supervision of the foreman and distribution system technicians.

1. Assist with the maintenance and repair of steam condensate valves, pipes, meters and other condensate system components under the supervision of the foreman and distribution system technicians.

5. Other duties as assigned.

The employee is occasionally required to foot/leg controls; keyboarding, and sitting.

This position involves working in a steam, hot water, and/or chilled water plant and/or its distribution system. While performing job duties, employees may occasionally encounter potential hazards, including fumes, airborne particles, high-pressure steam in piping or equipment, both hot and cold temperatures, and hazards associated with moving machinery. The work environment's noise level typically ranges from moderate to loud. Other potential hazards common to heating and cooling plants may include confined spaces, slippery surfaces, rotating equipment, chemical handling (e.g., water treatment chemicals), and burns. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and physical controls are in place as needed to mitigate these risks.

This is a union position with an hourly pay of $27.25.
