Your Role at Cabot:

Cabot is seeking a Lead Process Operator to join the Battery Materials team located at Cabot's primary CNS production and R&D facility in Billerica, MA.

This position leads activities for production of Carbon Nanostructures (CNS), and performs varied and more complex duties in the setup and operation of chemical processing equipment. This position also ensures all tasks are performed in a safe manner following plant safety policies and procedures. Additionally, this person makes decisions on production performance and leads adjustments as necessary.

This role works on Cabot's best-in-class product of conductive carbon nanomaterial, that has a range of applications including plastic composites and batteries. Carbon Nanostructures (CNS) are produced in a unique roll-to-roll Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process.

The Cabot CNS team will provide a thorough training/shadowing program to ensure new members are fully cross trained in all aspects of the production process including quality control testing and basic maintenance. Following the training program, new members will transition into their dedicated shift listed below:

  • 3rd Shift: Operational hours 10PM - 7AM (Shift Differential +$2.25)

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Provides day-to-day work guidance to CNS operators on shift. Provide plans for weekly tasks such as regular maintenance. Work with Production Manager to allocate work, resources and schedules.

  • Sets up and operate chemical processing and related equipment following work instructions (WI), Safe Operating Procedure (SOP), and Product Quality Control Plans (PQCP). Interprets in process analytical testing and other feedback systems to assist in maintaining process control. Makes necessary adjustments to system to maintain equipment within operational window.

  • Maintains updated operating procedures, records, and/or production and inventory activity reports.

  • Ensures sufficient raw material supplies are available to maintain production. May be required to submit POs, track inventory, and/or work with Production Manager to acquire necessary supplies.

  • May participate in development of execution plans pertaining to process changes or deployment of R&D projects as required. Interfaces with engineers and other technical personnel to identify and relate production yields, quality and equipment issues.

  • Identifies and executes process improvements and ensures training of all operators.

  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with established safety procedures and guidelines. Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.

  • May assist Production Supervisor or Production Manager in special projects.

  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001 technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.

What You'll Bring to Cabot:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Additional trade education or certification preferred.

  • 5-7 years of chemical manufacturing experience.

  • Solid knowledge of chemical manufacturing equipment, process and operations.

  • Ability to provide clear instructions and guidance to others. Ability to handle critical situations and lead team responses.

  • Familiarity with computers and related applications.

  • High level of safety awareness and attention to details.

  • Written, verbal communications and active listening skills.

  • Organization and record keeping skills

  • Flexibility in performing changing assignments

  • Ability to lift 50lbs and use material handling equipment.

How We'll Support Your Success:

  • The pay for this role starts at $33.85 an hour. However, when the assigned shifts start, shift differentials begin: 3rd Shift: +$2.25. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skill, qualifications, and experience. In addition, all positions are eligible for health benefits on the first day of employment, 401K savings plans, vision, dental and annual bonus based on company performance.
