Salary: $34 - $36/hr

Position Summary: Children's Aid runs a summer day camp in Chappaqua, NY that brings together children from Manhattan, the Bronx, and Westchester. Campers and staff are bused to and from the camp each day. The purpose of this camp is to provide traditional summer camp activities (swimming, arts & crafts, sports, horsemanship, etc.) in the context of relationship building. The children who attend this camp are from different socio-economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, and range in age from 6-13.

The Water Front Director supervises the pool staff and is responsible for enforcing all DOH standards in supervision at the pools. The Water Front Director manages the swim instruction at the camp to ensure that campers progress on their swim skills.

Essential Duties:



  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supervise all the activities at the two pools at Wagon Road including organizing free swim and swim instruction.
  • Manage and organize a staff of 8 lifeguards, 2 WSIs, and 2 Pool Aides.
  • Maintain all codes pertaining to the operation of pools stipulated in the NYS Health Codes, i.e., buddy checks, use of buddy boards, deep water tests, etc.
  • Check pool chemistry and keep Director informed as to its status.
  • Enforce all policies of Wagon Road pertaining to the pool.
  • Design and develop a system to the coordinate swim instruction and free swim.
  • Conduct in-service training with the pool staff to maintain high levels of readiness to respond to emergencies, conduct safe operation of the pools, and increase the enjoyment of the pool by the campers and staff.
  • Deploy and manage the group staff that come to the pool with the campers to maintain proper ratios of supervision of the campers in and out of the pool.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
  • 3 years of lifeguarding experience required.
  • Must have valid Lifeguard Supervisor Certificate and CPR certificate.
