What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an experienced UI Developer to join a creative team passionate about developing next generation systems. We enjoy innovating and collaborating in an engaging learning

environment to architect, design, develop, test, and deploy sophisticated software for complex, real-time decision support systems. We work in geophysical and space system data processing and exploitation pathfinders that leverage SNL's exquisite real-time ground processing expertise and analytics capabilities to deliver innovative solutions for our space mission. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work from developed requirements, specifications, and architectural design for the new system
  • Design new user interfaces as part of a larger system integrated with a database
  • Apply strong understanding of web development technologies and frameworks
  • Collaborate with other development teams regarding integration with the larger system
  • Provide mentorship to development teams; working closely with development teams to iterate on software designs
  • Demonstrate dedication to deliver and persistence to resolve issues

Salary Range

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

The ideal R&D, S&E Computer Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Knowledge of development tools such as: JavaScript & React; User interface/user experience development in Linux environments.
  • Proven experience working on large-scale software systems.
  • Kubernetes & Docker; Gitlab & Gradle.
  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Experience modeling in UML, distributed system design, and large-scale system design.
  • Experience in technical leadership as a lead developer, technical team lead, architect or other similar role.
  • Interest in contributing to an architecture role focused on specifying high-level designs for system features, software frameworks & infrastructure, deployment platform, development tooling, etc.
  • Familiarity with: service-based architectures (e.g. SOA, microservices); inter-process communication patterns, techniques and technologies; data storage architectures (relational, non-relational - e.g. document, wide-column); fault tolerance and system scaling concepts and techniques.
About Our Team

Modern Systems Solutions (6370) is a capability organization whose core contributions are in the science and engineering of Information Solutions creating engineering centric hardware and software designs for mission focused large data information extraction. Modern Systems Solutions emphasizes developing system requirements and architectures; algorithms; application solutions; and modeling and simulation.

Department. 6371 develops operational monitoring software in support of the US and International nuclear monitoring and non-proliferation mission. From basic research and development to fully deployed operational data processing and analysis systems, the department specializes in software architecture and development, geophysics, seismology/infrasound, machine learning, big data analytics, algorithm development and data analysis. This department is currently responsible for the National Data Center Modernization and the design and engineering of systems supporting Proliferation Assessment.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
