The GEL Group, Inc. is looking for a skilled Receptionist to join our team of professionals in our Charleston, SC office to manage the flow of in-person and phone/email correspondence for people interacting with our Laboratory or Engineering teams. As a Receptionist, you will be the gatekeeper, literally and figuratively, responsible for managing the flow of traffic into the building, orchestrating vendor and visitor sign-in, answering phones, and providing administrative support to the people in the main Charleston location. You must be able to work independently, effectively manage your time, and assist the Lab Leaders and Human Resources team with projects. The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator, with a positive demeanor, excellent in Microsoft Office 365 applications, and understand the importance of creating a welcoming first point of contact for our employees, customers, and vendors.

The Receptionist will be responsible for:



  • Managing the main entryway and lobby area, covering the front desk, signing people in/out, greeting clients, visitors, vendors, and employees.
  • Maintaining security by administering the badge process.
  • Answering calls on a multi-line phone system and routing properly.
  • Relaying time-sensitive information via phone, intercom, MS Teams, or email.
  • Inventory support, incoming and outgoing mail processing, and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrating and supporting GEL core values.
  • Conducting activities that support the Human Resources team.

Qualifications for Receptionist:



  • High School Diploma required, some college preferred
  • Minimum of two years of front desk experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable multitasker, handling calls, emails, and in-person communication all at once
  • Exhibits organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Office 365 skills using Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams


Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

This position requires working in the lobby area of a busy production laboratory and engineering offices. Safety is a priority and negligence is not tolerated. Safety equipment is provided, and use is mandatory, when in required Laboratory areas.

The physical demands outlined in this job posting are representative of those that are required for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:



  • Use of office equipment and stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
