Overview:

We are seeking a Maintenance Engineer for the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), primarily supporting the Cold Source upgrade project.HFIR Maintenance Engineersareresponsible for maintainingthe HFIR equipment and facilities to ensure safe, reliable, predictable, and efficient operations. This scope includes the HFIR maintenance program and processes; implementation of corrective, predictive, preventative, and modification work activities; work scheduling; and outage management. HFIR Maintenance Engineers work closely with members of the HFIR Beamline Operations Section, Science staff, Instrument Engineers, Reactor Operations and Cold Source personnel, and Melton Valley Complex Facility Supervisors.

This positionresidesin the Maintenance Engineering Group in the HFIR Maintenance Section,Research Reactors Division,Neutron Sciences DirectorateatOak Ridge National Laboratory(ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Maintenance Planning and Task Leading:

  • Develop written directions to perform and document repetitive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and modification activities on nuclear safety related and non-nuclear equipment in an operating reactor facility.

  • Determinethe required specifications for materials, and request/coordinate the procurement of required material.

  • Provide technical direction during field work to craft workers and supervisors.

  • Coordinate with equipment owners and facility management toaccomplishwork safely and with efficient use of resources.

  • Identifyrisks to personnel or plant and work with RRD/NSD/NTD and other personnel to planappropriate riskmitigation, including those concerning health physics, industrial hygiene, and safety.

  • Understand and implement human performance principles in the planning of maintenance work packages.

  • Ensure that UT-Battelle policies concerning environmental protection, safety, ALARA, and quality assurance are considered andcomplied with.

Maintenance Coordination and Scheduling:

  • Administer the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for a given area (e.g., mechanical, electrical, facilities), including the processing and initial task assignment or the administration of individual work activities.

  • Responsible for analyzing maintenance practices and procedures, equipment failures,identifyingequipmentoperating, and reporting results as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Some duties will require work to be performed in a radiological area.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A BS degree in engineering, applied science, or a related discipline with 5 or more years of relevant experience.

  • Experience diagnosing equipment problems and developing formal work package instructions for documentation of repairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ABSdegreewitha minimum of 10 years of relevant nuclear experience.

  • Experience working in a nuclear reactor environment in the mechanical, electrical, or operations field.

  • Familiarity with maintenance activities in a nuclear reactor operating environment.

  • Experience working with cryogenic systems.

  • Familiarity with vacuum systems.

  • HFIR facility knowledge.

  • Experience with predictive maintenance techniques and equipment reliability programs.

  • Familiarity withCold Sourceequipmentandoperations.

Special Requirements:

  • Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will berequiredafter offer.

  • HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain andmaintainan HSPD-12 PIV badge.

  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
