Job Summary
Inspect installation of both overhead/underground distribution facilities to ensure quality and compliance with Company standards and procedures, and compliance with various governmental agency requirements. Reports to Distribution Project Management Supervisor and performs duties in compliance with company and department procedures.
Essential Functions
- Field checkworksin connection withthe constructionof the distributionsystem associated with URD, DDP,Lighting,and Road Widening/Major Relocation Projects.
- Inspect new construction and ensure that all work is performed in accordance with Company standards, procedures, and safe work practices and in compliance with government regulations.
- Field check street repairs and other restoration work resulting from project work for quality.
- Visit job sites to ensure that the construction work is being performed according to plans, to discuss any problems that may occur, and to check the quality and quantity of work being performed by our employees and contractor(s).
- Counsel with supervisor and management on all pertinent matters related to construction
- Remain current with new practices, new tools or equipment, new materials, and new techniques by attending operational meetings and reading various publications.
- Must demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures, and take all required training courses.

- Must Demonstraterespect for all Individuals and adhere to the Company's values and business practices.
- Quality Program Oversight: Develop, implement, and enforce the company's quality assurance plans and procedures for electric distribution projects. This can include creating inspection checklists, establishing quality benchmarks, and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) to comply with the latest industry regulations and client requirements. Seniors often lead QA/QC initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across multiple projects or districts.
- Advanced Inspections & Audits: Perform comprehensive field inspections of complex or high-risk distribution work. This includes auditing contractor work methods and materials for compliance with utility engineering standards, NESC requirements, and OSHA safety regulations. They validate that construction and maintenance (from pole installations and transformer replacements and underground cable systems) meet all contractual and regulatory quality criteria. Senior inspectors may handle the most challenging inspections (e.g. post-storm infrastructure rebuilds or critical feeder installations) .
- Issue Resolution & Expert Consultation: Identify systemic quality issues or recurrent defects and work with engineering and operations leadership to develop solutions. For example, a senior inspector might analyze trends in inspection reports to pinpoint problem areas and lead root-cause analysis. They provide expert recommendations for corrective actions and process improvements to prevent future quality issues.
- Training and Mentoring: Serve as mentor and trainer for other inspectors and field crews. A senior QA/QC inspector often conducts formal safety and quality training sessions, refresher courses on standards, and field evaluations of staff performance. They might lead quality/safety meetings across multiple job sites, share best practices, and ensure that junior inspectors correctly apply inspection techniques.
Education Description
Requires aHigh School Diploma or equivalent withdemonstratedknowledge of Reading,Mathand Grammar.Degree preferred
Successful completion of Apprentice Training Program for electrical distribution skill area. Other electric distribution field or contractor services experience may be considered.
Experience
- Requires aminimum offive (5)prefers8-15 years of electric distribution design and/or construction work experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of CenterPoint Energy Electric Service Standards.
Physical Requirements
- Able to exert in excess of 30 pounds of force occasionally and in excess of 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
- Able to bend, lift/carry, climb, crouch, reach, squat and sit for long periods of time.
- Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Able to view computer terminal for extended periods of time.
- Able to demonstrate manual dexterity to operate a personal computer.
- Able to operate copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other office equipment.
- Able to work a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands.
- Able to operate and drive a motor vehicle.
- Able to conduct frequent field job site inspections to various locations and in all weather conditions
Working Conditions
- Exposure to all weather conditions. Field inspections may require extensive walking on land used for construction sites, which is located away from paved roads, and may involve crossing through mud, debris, heavy foliage, construction areas, and creeks or pasture land. Field environment may also involve being around livestock and or captive animals.
- Able to travel as necessary to off-site locations.
- Able to work in a fast paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines.
- Able to work occasional overtime as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
