- Seton Medical Center Harker Heights is an 83-bed acute care hospital offering services such as Cardiology, Emergency Services and a Level IV Trauma Designated ER, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Total Joint Replacement, Gastroenterology, Diagnostic Services and more.
Responsibilities
- Function as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for pre-analytical specimen preparation and processing; embedding, microtomy, and maintaining the equipment under the direction of Histology/Pathology department leadership, Pathologist, or designee.
- Perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist.
- Performs specimen fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and IHC analysis within the scope of practice, training, and skills.
- Adheres to laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing, analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Evaluates specimens and test requests for appropriateness.
- Documents appropriate information into the laboratory information system.
- Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students, or interns, including lectures and bench techniques.
- Other duties may arise and be carried out as assigned to meet quality standards expected for patient care.
- All duties performed will be within the guidelines set forth by regulatory and hospital guidelines to maintain, manage, and assure specimen integrity.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in histotechnology, laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution, OR degree in biology or chemistry with education/training equivalent.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Experience within a clinical or anatomic pathology department
- Six months experience as Histotechnician
