Maintenance I (SPLA)

PURPOSE:

The Level 1 Electrician (Mastery Level) is a highly skilled professional responsible for the safe, reliable installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electrical systems across refinery operations. This role serves as a technical expert, providing leadership, mentorship, and direction to other electricians and contractors while ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex electrical systems, including:
  
  
  
  • High and low voltage systems
  • Motors, compressors, and critical rotating equipment
  • Switchgear, substations, and motor control centers (MCCs)
  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS) interfaces and field wiring
  
  
  
  
• Lead and execute critical maintenance and turnaround activities
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electricians and apprentices
• Plan and coordinate electrical work with operations, engineering, and contractors
• Read and interpret advanced electrical drawings, one-lines, loop diagrams, and specifications
• Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, including:
  
  
  
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Arc flash and electrical safety boundaries
  • Hazardous area classification requirements
  
  
  
  
• Perform equipment inspections and predictive/preventive maintenance
• Identify reliability issues and recommend improvements
• Support root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and incident investigations
• Verify quality and compliance of contractor electrical work

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship or equivalent industrial experience
• Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent experience
• Extensive experience in industrial or refinery electrical maintenance

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

• Two-year associate's or technical degree in maintenance preferred

• NCCER or equivalent advanced electrical certification
• Experience with refinery-specific systems and processes
• Working knowledge of instrumentation and controls
• Experience with SAP or CMMS systems
