Position Summary

Position Summary:

The Machine Shop Deburr Specialist is responsible for performing precision deburring, finishing, and surface preparation of machined components to meet aerospace and customer specifications. This role ensures parts conform to blueprint requirements, quality standards, and safety regulations while supporting lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, work instructions, and process travelers.
  • Perform manual and mechanical deburring operations on machined components including internal features, edges, holes, slots, and contours.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, and excess material while maintaining critical tolerances.
  • Use hand tools, rotary tools, abrasive wheels, polishing equipment, and specialized deburring tools.
  • Perform micro-finishing, edge breaking, blending, and surface finishing to customer specifications.
  • Inspect parts using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and gauges.
  • Identify nonconforming parts and escalate quality concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain traceability and accurate documentation of completed work.
  • Follow standardized work instructions and participate in lean initiatives (5S, waste reduction, visual controls).
  • Maintain clean and organized work area consistent with 6S standards.

Education, Experiences, Certificates/Licenses and/or Registrations:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.

  • High school diploma or GED,
  • Or 5+ years of deburring or precision finishing experience in a machine shop (aerospace preferred).
  • Knowledge of GD&T preferred.

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods and stand to perform work. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or move up to fifty (50) pounds or more with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

  1. Occasionally required to lift up to 30 lbs.

  2. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.

  3. Safety glasses, shop coat/apron, proper shoes.

  4. Occasional exposure to shop element such as noise, dust, odors and fumes.

  5. Manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.

  6. Required use of PPE: safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, gloves, shop coat/apron as required.

  7. Compliance with all OSHA and company safety policies.

Typical Materials, Tools and Equipment Used:

Materials worked on: Aluminum, Steel, Inconel, Rene41, and other metal alloys

Tools used: Hand tools, die grinders, abrasive tools, and polishing equipment.

Inspection tools: Calipers, micrometer, height gages, radius gages, pin gages, indicators, microscopes comparators and other inspection tools to meet drawing requirements.

Pay Range: $35.39-$38.14

  • Pay Range: $16.9/hr to $28.15/hr
