Summary: The Manager of Volunteer Services provides leadership, administration, and coordination of the hospital's volunteer program. This role oversees the activities of volunteers who enhance and extend the services delivered by hospital staff. The manager serves as a vital liaison between volunteers, hospital administration, and clinical and non-clinical teams. In addition to supporting the hospital's mission, this position fosters a meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience grounded in compassion and service. By empowering volunteers to make a difference, the manager helps create an environment where doing good inspires a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment. Responsibilities: 1. Maintain an Effective Volunteer Staff * Plan, develop, coordinate and execute a comprehensive program to engage and retain volunteers so that volunteer positions are staffed in alignment with organizational needs * Recruit, interview, place, orient, train, supervise, and evaluate volunteers. * Collaborate with hospital leadership to define volunteer roles and develop written service descriptions. * Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all volunteers. * Plan and coordinate formal and informal recognition activities. * Guide, facilitate, and enable the volunteer's personal growth withing the program. * Administer volunteer engagement survey annually 2. Oversee the Volunteer Services Department * Prepare and maintain necessary forms, reports, and statistical records keeping volunteer records current and complaint * Develop and monitor annual budgets for Volunteer Services, Cheer Corner, Volunteers, and Pastoral Care; review performance monthly and report volunteer's hours monthly * Create and update manuals, handbooks, brochures, newsletters, and other public relations materials. * Develop annual budget and evaluate monthly. * Review public relations materials annually or as needed * 3. Coordinate the Junior Volunteer Program * Recruit, interview, orient, train, place, supervise, and evaluate junior volunteers. * Document service hours and coordinate awards and recognition. * Plan and conduct annual recognition events and awards ceremonies. 4. Oversee the Gift Shop and Pastoral Care Programs * Provide support, direction, and performance evaluation for Gift Shop and Pastoral Care leaders. * Guide leaders in establishing and achieving monthly and annual goals. * Offer daily consultation and operational guidance. * Conduct monthly departmental meetings and annual performance evaluations. * 5. Manage the Volunteer Board * Maintain the Volunteers' Constitution/Bylaws, and Policies and Procedures ensuring that governing documents remain current and compliant. * Serve as an ex-officio member of the Volunteer Board; attend meetings and committee functions. * Ensure meetings are attended, and minutes are recorded and maintained. * Ensure compliance to policies and procedures * Provide leadership and direction for fundraising initiatives and event planning activities. * 6. Participate in Meetings and Maintain Records * Attend leadership, division, and hospital committee meetings and communicate information effectively to staff and volunteers. * Maintain records to ensure volunteer compliance with organizational standards and ensure that the volunteer program is accurately represented to hospital staff and community. * Pursue ongoing professional development through regional, state, and national conferences. Other information: EDUCATION Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or minimum of 5 years direct experience in healthcare volunteer programming. * EXPERIENCE Demonstrated supervisory experience with responsibility for directing and supporting ancillary personnel required. Experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, volunteers, community and the general public. LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION Certification in Leadership and Volunteer Management is preferred. OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Proven leadership and management abilities. Strong organizational and instructional skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage volunteers, employees, and the public. WORK ENVIRONMENT Supervision of large groups representing diverse ages and backgrounds. Responsibilities often require individualized attention within a fast-paced environment. Occasional travel may be required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Regular walking, standing, and sitting. Light lifting as needed.
