What you'll do

This role works across sites and segments to assure compliance and lead improvements to our Quality Management System. Gain and apply a unique view of Viasat's processes working cross functionally. Conducts internal production/process and manufacturing quality audits and risk assessments. Prepares audit plans and understands the specific issues to be evaluated. Executes internal audits within established manufacturing and production controls to ensure compliance with in-house and external specifications and standards (e.g., AS9100, GMP, ISO, Six Sigma). Develops formal written reports to communicate audit results to management and regulatory compliance agencies, if applicable, and makes recommendations as appropriate. May facilitate work of external auditors during on-site visits. Identifies gaps and provides expertise in business requirements for management system and scales new and current systems, processes and procedures in a cost-effective manner. Lead cross-functional linked teams to address business or process, or systemic issues.


The day-to-day

  • The Quality Systems Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., AS9100)
  • This role is responsible for leading and managing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), Internal and External Audits, Management Reviews, and Quality Plans
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding AS9100 quality principles.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and fostering a culture of quality throughout the organization
  • This role also involves maintaining, planning, coordinating, and implementing quality system processes and procedures to support the QMS
  • The Quality Systems Engineer will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the company's quality systems
  • Ensures the Viasat QMS complies with standards and regulations such as AS9100, Part 145, Part 21, and CMMI
  • Guides and maintains the CAPA process, including investigation, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and effectiveness verification, to drive continuous improvement and prevent recurrence of quality issues
  • Ensure timely closure and effective verification of CAPAs
  • Monitor CAPA trends and report metrics to management
  • Plan, execute, and document internal audits to ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and QMS procedures
  • Coordinate and support external audits
  • Track and facilitate closure of audit findings and observations
  • Plans, organizes, and facilitates management review meetings to evaluate the effectiveness of the QMS, review quality metrics, discuss improvement opportunities, and ensure appropriate resource allocation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality objectives are met
  • Fosters a culture of quality throughout the organization by promoting awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement in quality processes and practices

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' experience in aerospace, space, military and/or defense or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of AS9100, AS9102B, 9001 QMS or maintenance
  • 3+ years auditing per ISO including direct involvement with external audits
  • 5 years' experience in managing CAPA processes, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and conducting internal and external audits
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, including the ability to set goals and follow through, build positive relationships
  • Team-oriented with good interpersonal skills who is hands-on with a high energy approach to work
  • Located within a 50-mile radius of Tempe, AZ or Carlsbad, CA.
  • US Citizenship required

Salary range

$121,000.00 - $191,000.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $150,000.00- $225,000.00/ annually
