Position Summary

The Senior Software Development Manager leads multiple engineering teams responsible for delivering reliable, modern data platform and reporting solutions. The role balances people leadership, technical judgment, and delivery accountability while partnering closely with Product, Architecture, and customer-facing functions.

The organization is entering a new era of datadriven engineering, where modern architectures, AIpowered insights, and scalable data platforms shape every product and operational decision. As part of this role, the Software Development Manager, will lead teams that are building the foundation of this transformation, driving the evolution from traditional reporting and siloed systems to a unified, intelligent analytics ecosystem centered on Databricks Lakehouse, Looker semantic models, and nextgeneration data products.

This role is ideal for leaders and builders who want to drive transformation, deliver impact, and shape a nextgeneration analytics platform that empowers every decision across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Development Manager

  • During standups, help Scrum team in identifying roadblocks and immediately coordinate removal (stakeholders, tools, process).

  • Schedule ad hoc working sessions when deeper discussion is needed to unblock delivery.

  • For design/architecture reviews: first analyze and propose options; then partner with the Architect to finalize solutions.

  • Align with the Product Manager on the agreed solution and review the scope along with acceptance criteria and dependencies.

  • Prerefinement: meet with Product to confirm the next slice of work and recommend developer assignment.

  • Attend and participate in Refinement; ensure readiness for the next sprint(s).

  • Attend Triads (e.g., Product-Design-Engineering) to anticipate challenges and coordinate early mitigation.

  • Proactively identify issues; assist with cross-team communications and external coordination.

  • Schedule meetings with requesters or Customer-facing teams (e.g., SAM, RNA, Support, OPS, EDI) when requirements are unclear.

  • Work as Release Manager and manage Production deployment 3 to 4 times a year.

  • Monitor the Global Escalations and respond promptly:

    • If immediate action is needed, assign a developer and reprioritize their workload.

    • Communicate ETA/updates back to the Escalations group.

  • Field inbound requests from internal and Customer-facing teams; triage before assigning.

  • Maintain focused group chats to accelerate issue resolution and information sharing.

  • Attend every meeting developers have with their case requesters, document notes and decisions.

  • Act as gatekeeper for new Reporting requests/features/enhancements:

    • Gather requirements and clarify scope before engaging the team.

  • Perform basic analysis on reported issues before handing off to developers to minimize churn.

  • Track throughput and trends via the Salesforce Reporting Dashboard; use data to drive prioritization and bandwidth allocation.

Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 9+ years of professional experience and 1+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.

Critical Skills

  • 9+ years in software engineering with 1+ years in people management across cross-functional delivery.

  • Proven success as a Development Manager in Agile/Kanban environments.

  • Strong experience coordinating with Product, Architecture, DBA, and Customer-facing teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to triage escalations, manage release cycles, and maintain clear stakeholder communications.

  • Hands-on familiarity with data platforms with Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse, and BI/reporting ecosystems such as SSRS, PBIRS, Power BI.

  • Solid grasp of Jira, Salesforce Service Cloud workflows.

  • Excellent requirements analysis, prioritization, and risk/impediment management skills.

  • Empathetic, servant leader: protects team focus, delivers candid feedback privately, and creates conditions for high performance.

Nice-to-Have

  • Healthcare or 340B program domain familiarity.

  • Certifications: CSM/PSM, SAFe, PMP, Azure (Data/Architect), Power BI.

  • Experience building operational dashboards and instrumentation for throughput/quality.

Tools & Stack

  • Project/Support: Jira (Scrum/Kanban, Fix Versions), Salesforce (Cases, Dashboards), MS Teams

  • Data/Compute: Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse

  • BI/Reporting: SSRS, PBIRS, Power BI + Gateway

  • Languages/DB: SQL, C#, exposure to modern data pipelines preferred

Work Environment

Hybrid in Atlanta, GA

Occasional travel (10%) for team or stakeholder workshops as needed.

This role is a hybrid position. The selected candidate is expected to work on-site at our Las Colinas office a minimum of two (2) days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. Specific in-office days may be designated based on team needs and business priorities.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$121,400 - $202,400
