Job Summary
The Home Automation Technician installs, configures, and services smart home and audio/visual systems in luxury residential and large-scale new construction environments. This role involves installing security systems, home theater equipment, networking components, and home automation solutions while ensuring systems operate efficiently and meet design specifications. The technician works directly with homeowners to explain system functionality, provide training, and deliver high-quality customer service. This position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment, and a commitment to maintaining professional service standards. Job Responsibilities
Install, service, and activate security systems, surround sound systems, speakers, televisions, remote controls, and home automation components
Install and configure Control4 automation systems, lighting control systems, and related smart home technologies
Install and troubleshoot wiring for phone, data, intercom, security, wireless access points, audio systems, and cameras
Mount and install home theater equipment, networking hardware, and AV component packages in residential environments
Review work orders with customers, answer questions, and provide clear explanations of installed systems
Train homeowners on system functionality, operation, and advanced monitoring solutions
Troubleshoot and repair system malfunctions, wiring issues, and false alarms
Assess system design and functionality when adding or upgrading system components
Perform trim technician duties as required during project phases
Respond to emergency service calls on an after-hours rotation basis
Maintain professional communication with customers and team members while completing assignments
Perform additional duties as assigned to support project completion and service quality
Job Requirements
Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience installing security systems and audio/visual systems
Demonstrate working knowledge of Control4 automation systems; Control4 Associate Installer or Automation Programmer certification preferred
Demonstrate knowledge of cable types and installation techniques with the ability to select proper cabling for various system components
Install and configure networking equipment including routers, switches, DVRs, and wireless access points
Troubleshoot system performance, wiring issues, and equipment malfunctions
Demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills when working with homeowners
Work independently and manage tasks within established installation standards
Work under pressure and meet project deadlines
Possess or be willing to obtain basic tools required for installation work
Pass background screening, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check
