Description

You can make a difference for climate and equity.

Slipstream is a national, mission-driven organization that accelerates climate solutions. For everyone.

We partner with governments, philanthropies, and utilities to discover, test, and scale new solutions that save - and decarbonize - energy. We collaborate with communities of color, rural communities, and tribal nations to address historic inequities in the health and economic benefits of clean energy.

We're optimistic, inclusive, and ambitious about our impact.

About the Role

We are seeking an HVAC Training & Technical Advisor who brings real field experience and can help improve how residential HVAC systems are installed and sold. This role will act as a trusted technical resource both internally and externally, helping us improve system performance and support the growing shift toward high-efficiency and heat pump solutions through hands-on training and practical tools.

Our ideal HVAC Training & Technical Advisor has hands-on installation experience and has moved into a lead tech, sales, management, or comfort advisor role. We are looking for someone who understands how to properly select and size equipment in a heating-dominated climate, and who is comfortable with duct design, dual fuel systems, and what it takes to deliver a high-quality heat pump installation in the real world.

The HVAC Training & Technical Advisor role involves training contractors on how to install heat pumps correctly and confidently, as well as how to talk to customers about them in a way that leads to more successful projects. We are looking for someone who works well with others, values different perspectives, and can help improve how programs are designed and delivered.

We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds. While our physical offices are in Madison, WI and Chicago, IL, we have remote staff in multiple states. We welcome candidates located in the Midwest with cold climate HVAC experience.

  • Work directly with contractor networks to support training and program delivery.
  • Develop and deliver practical, real-world training focused on variable capacity heat pumps and residential HVAC best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance on equipment selection, system design, and installation quality, including occasional hands-on project support.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to improve programs and address real market challenges.
  • Review and interpret installation and market data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as a go-to technical resource across Slipstream, helping connect field experience to research, training, financing, and program design.
