The Role

At QuidelOrtho, we're advancing the power of diagnostics for a healthier future for all. Join our mission as our next Lead Material Handler. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for processing and delegating daily distribution tasks specific to loading, unloading, moving/transferring, and transacting materials to support in-plant logistics. Individual must be attentive to detail and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This position also requires the person to be able to accurately complete transactions and fulfill requests in timely manner for the receipt, delivery, and shipment of all goods. These functions include operating in a GMP environment and adhering to strong inventory management practices and supports the Supervisors in executing daily tasks/goals.

This role will be onsite in Carlsbad, CA.

The Responsibilities
  • Adheres to all safety training and instructions and has knowledge of materials and safety

  • Manages and is the subject matter expert for their functional departments.

  • Performs inventory audits assessing accuracy of inventory counts, performs investigations and participates in root cause analysis and reports back tomanagement on any discrepancies in inventory levels

  • Develops employees and provides feedback, and coaches for improvement

  • Manages material movement to and from off-site distribution centers, ensuring the accuracy of material movement

  • Performs daily distribution tasks, such as shipping, receiving, material handling

  • Follows federal and international regulations regarding hazardous substance transportation

  • Assures the accurate counting, staging and storage of materials and supplies

  • Operates warehouse vehicles such sit down, stand up and side-loader forklifts, pallet jacks, and related material handling equipment in narrow aisles and cold storage facilities

  • Helps fosters a high degree of collaboration with other leaders to support positive morale among warehouse team

  • Follows all standard operation procedures and GMP guidelines

  • Is the subject matter expert in the effective training of other employees

  • Helps addresses customer complaints

  • Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be forklift certified and trained in the safe usage of basic warehouse

  • Intermediate computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and transaction data entry.

  • Basic math skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Hands-on experience shipping products via common freight carriers

  • Hands-on experience supplying materials to production work orders

  • Strong time management skills, ability to function efficiently with a focus on safe practices

  • Advocates for and demonstrates commitment to complete work in accordance with QuidelOrtho's Quality Management System, supporting ISO requirements, FDA regulations, and those put forth by other regulatory agencies.

  • Understands and is aware of the quality consequences and device defects that may occur from the improper performance of their specific job.

Preferred:

  • Three to Four years of related experience in a warehouse/stockroom environment utilizing material handling equipment and computerized inventory control system

  • Previous experience in a GMP environment

  • Prior cycle count experience

  • ERP system experience

  • APICS certification or lean/continuous improvement experience, GMP, ERP experience

The Key Working Relationships

Internal Partners:

Ensures effective communication between all support groups (QC, inventory control, planning, facilities, etc.) to meet warehouse/production schedules and quality standards.

Interacts with management and collaborates with others to determine solutions to problems.

Works with peer groups and/or supervisor in conflict resolution.

Delivers training on new procedures and policies as appropriate.

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, and warehouse environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues and samples. Up to 75% of time at desk, standing or sitting extended periods of time. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.

The Physical Demands

Position requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more at least 35 % of the day on a regular basis. Walking, standing, and climbing for long periods of time are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. May operate a forklift approximately 75% of the time.

Salary Transparency

Salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including: education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on that facts and circumstances of each case. Salary range for this position is $52,000 to $66,000 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
