Job Summary

The Application Developer II supports research, development, and transition projects by designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable web and application-based systems for various federally funded projects. This role focuses on building mission-support software platforms, data-driven applications, dashboards, and automation tools that enable applied research, operational analytics, and technology transition.

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain responsive web and application systems supporting research and federal programs.
  • Build secure user interfaces, APIs, dashboards, and back end services for research analytics, decision support, and data management.
  • Implement modern front-end frameworks and scalable back-end architectures.
  • Develop applications that integrate databases, analytics pipelines, and visualization tools.
  • Support platforms used for cybersecurity research, AI analytics, and operational simulations.
  • Assist in development of portals for reporting, data ingestion, and knowledge management.
  • Create automation scripts for application deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Maintain application documentation and version control practices.
  • Optimize application performance, database queries, and system scalability.
  • Work with researchers, faculty, and project managers to gather requirements and translate them into functional applications.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Studies or other technical discipline and three (3) years related experience; OR seven (7) years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in C#, .NET, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js for building secure, scalable, and responsive web and application systems.
  • Experience with backend development using Python, Java, Node.js, or PHP.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Experience with SQL databases (MS-SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL systems (MongoDB).
  • Experience with Git version control.
  • Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and basic Linux system administration.
  • Experience supporting federal, DoD, or research institutions.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, OR Data Science and two (2) years related experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
