Job Summary

Provides leadership and management of Disability Consultants and direct services for students with disabilities. Responsible for facilitating access to courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities for students with disabilities. Works in collaboration with the student and faculty to develop and implement best practices in inclusive design and determining and providing reasonable accommodations.

  • Manages and evaluates the design, development, and coordination of direct student services. Provides technical advice, problem-solving assistance, answers to questions regarding program goals, and policy interpretation.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates the direct student service team. Works with direct reports to develop professional and personal skills, correct deficiencies and recommends and implements corrective action and discipline.
  • Assists the Director and Administrative leadership in preparing and monitoring departmental goals. Develops objectives and activities based on department goals.
  • Meets with students to identify barriers to full participation in the curricular and co-curricular environments and determine appropriate accommodations based on the student's disability information.
  • Coordinates the provision of reasonable accommodations in consultation with students, faculty and staff
  • Provides consultation, information, resources and referrals to disabled students, University faculty, staff and administrators
  • Maintains appropriate records by documenting communication with and regarding students and recording recommended courses of action or accommodations. Maintains appropriate confidentiality in verbal and written communications
  • Participates actively in the continuing development of services, programs and activities
  • Responsible for timely intervention, follow up and progress tracking of assigned student cohort in an effort to support timely program completion and other student success measures
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned direct student service staff. Works with employees to correct deficiencies and recommends and implements corrective action and discipline.
  • Assists the Director and Administrative leadership in preparing and monitoring departmental goals. Develops objectives and activities based on department goals.
  • Performs essential duties during any emergencies, such as hurricanes, storms and/or any other University emergency closing. Is expected to be available to report to work as needed during University emergency closings with appropriate notification by department administrator.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline and three (3) years' experience in associated discipline or Master's degree and one (1) year of experience.



Desired Qualifications

Experience working with persons with disabilities preferred. Experience working in a higher education environment preferred.
