Job Description

Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Direct Support Professional for their Day & Employment division. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. Senior Direct Support Professionals are responsible for the delivery of services with JCDS. This position also serves as a lead for other direct care staff. First review of candidates is Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

    Coach and train individuals on various vocational and social skills to enable productive community employment by: training on job tasks specific to the employer; teaching appropriate social interactions with co-workers and supervisors; teaching interpersonal skills; evaluating performance on the job; teaching how to recognize and respond to abuse, neglect or exploitation.
  • Maintain documentation, including evaluating and documenting individual progress toward person centered support plan objectives and communicating progress toward plan objectives; evaluating performance on the job; recording other related data relevant to person centered support plan.
  • Communicate between agencies, employers and family, guardians, case managers, and others as needed. Keep other parties updated regarding any status changes; maintain positive business relations with work site employer; develop future job leads in the business community.
  • Provide appropriate medical, physical or behavioral guidance as needed to individuals to maintain employment.
  • Transport individuals as needed.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working in a human services field are required. May require KS/MO driver's license, depending on department or agency.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Preferred Job Requirements:

No preferred job requirements.

Education/Experience Substitutions:

Education may be substituted for experience.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

Lifting: requirement varies by assignment.

Exposure to hazardous materials (bodily fluids).

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation
