Job Summary
#CA-DS The Director of Data and Digital Strategy ("Director") is the School of Nursing's (SON) senior technical and data strategy leader, responsible for shaping the school's digital vision and driving high-impact, enterprise-aligned transformation. The Director provides both strategic direction and hands-on technical leadership, ensuring SON's technical infrastructure and digital ecosystem advances the school's academic, research, and operational mission while maintaining full compliance with institutional requirements. The Director also strengthens cross-team enablement and digital capability across the School, ensuring faculty, staff, and program leadership have the guidance, tools, and shared practices needed to effectively adopt, optimize, and sustain technology solutions.
The Director leads major cross-functional initiatives, influences institutional decision-making, and ensures SON's needs are effectively represented across campus and health system technology governance bodies. This position works closely with central IT partners (UC Davis Health IT and AIS, UC Davis IET) to support the responsible adoption of emerging technologies and ensure all school-level implementations align with campus IT governance, security, and risk frameworks. This is a role for an accomplished leader who can effectively operate at the intersection of technology, strategy, governance, and innovation - balancing enterprise standards with local needs to drive impactful, future-ready digital solutions. - Bachelor's degree in information systems, data science, business analytics, computer science, engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing technical teams and overseeing enterprise systems, data strategy, and/or digital transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated leadership at an enterprise or school/college level, with experience setting vision, establishing data governance practices, and guiding adoption of modern digital and analytical tools.
- Demonstrated success managing cross-functional projects and vendor partnerships, including requirements development, systems implementation, and evaluation of emerging technologies.
- Advanced knowledge of data governance, data quality, and reporting frameworks, including experience with data visualization, metadata management, and strategic dashboard development.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences, build consensus, and facilitate collaboration across diverse stakeholders (faculty, staff, IT units, and executive leadership).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., MBA, M.S. in Data Science, M.Ed. in Educational Leadership with tech focus).
- Experience working in a higher education or health-related environment, especially within academic health systems. Familiarity with UC Davis or other UC campus governance, systems, and practices.
- Experience in a leadership role implementing AI-enabled technologies (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing, intelligent automation) in a higher education and/or healthcare environment.
- Experience with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, and/or Salesforce.
