| Position Purpose |
The Senior Mechanical Engineer participates in all aspects of day-to-day operations of the Dartmouth College engineering office. The engineering office strives to provide high quality engineering services for a wide range of projects and clients, including providing review and technical oversight of projects designed by outside consultants, working with Project Managers on in-house design and renovation projects, working with FO&M shops on system upgrades, improvements and replacements, and assisting with design and analysis of energy efficiency projects. The activities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer may include design reviews, field investigations, existing systems assessment, document/archive search,
HVAC and plumbing system design and layout, equipment selection and specification, drafting, code review, calculations including spreadsheet analyses and use of engineering software, writing
HVAC control system sequences of operation, construction administration services, and development and continuous improvement of campus Design and Construction Guidelines. |

| Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities |
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or architectural engineering technology, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten (10) plus years of mechanical design and drafting with an MEP consulting firm, or the equivalent.
- Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in New Hampshire, or the ability to become registered in New Hampshire within one (1) year of employment.
- Minimum of 5 years of mechanical drafting experience using AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with all aspects of HVAC and plumbing design, including load calculations and system sizing, selection and specification of mechanical equipment, field verification, codes and standards, and controls design.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with energy efficient HVAC system design and control strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems associated with the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Detail oriented self-starter with good interpersonal and decision-making skills.
- Ability to relate well with a diverse group of constituents and to build strong relationships within and among those groups.
- Strong service orientation and a demonstrated desire to continually improve the service and operations of an organization.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in a college or university environment is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of the International Building Code and working with authorities having jurisdiction for compliance requirements.
- High level of proficiency with AutoCAD drafting software. Proficiency with 3D drafting software such as Revit.
- Active LEED BD+C AP certification.

| Description |
Owner's Engineer: As Owner's Engineer, provides mechanical engineering oversight of consultants' studying, designing, constructing, and commissioning new construction and renovation projects in campus buildings, utility plants, and utility distribution systems. Checks designs and installations for compliance with Dartmouth College design and construction guidelines, energy performance guidelines, and relevant building codes, including
ASHRAE,
NFPA,
IBC, and local regulations and zoning. Activities include attending project meetings, developing consultant scopes of work, conducting design reviews, conducting selected submittal reviews, construction observation, commissioning oversight, and project closeout verification as Owner's Engineer. |
