As part of our Architecture practice at HDR, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of spaces and experiences that advance community well-being around the world. From healing environments and learning spaces to research labs and civic landmarks and infrastructure, your work will directly influence how individuals experience the world around them. We bring together architects, planners, designers, and technical experts to solve complex design challenges with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. In the role of Architecture Intern (Urban Design), we will count on you to:
  • Offer real-world experience on exciting projects

  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs

  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of an Architect, Project Manager, or other professionals

  • Participate in the architectural design process, and develop alternative solutions and presentation graphics used to communicate concepts to client or for agency approval

  • Follow through on design development drawings and models, and collaborate with production staff for technical details and completion of construction drawings

  • Support urban design and planning projects through research, mapping, graphics, and basic design tasks

  • Assist with preparation of diagrams, plans, sections, renderings, and presentation materials

  • Conduct precedent research and help synthesize findings into clear visuals and summaries

  • Provide support for proposals, reports, and internal design studies as needed

  • Participate in team meetings, design reviews, and collaborative working sessions

  • Perform other related tasks in support of the Urban Design Studio

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited program in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field

  • Strong interest in urban design, placemaking, and the built environment

  • Basic proficiency with common design and visualization tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite; CAD, GIS, Rhino)

  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly through graphics, diagrams, and written materials

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks

  • Local candidates preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Attention to detail
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00 per hour depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
