Job Description

Production Shift Supervisor

Department: Operations / Production
Reports To: Production Manager / Department Head

Location: Amcor - Syracuse, NY

Position Summary

The Production Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, coaching, and operational oversight for production employees on an assigned shift. This role ensures safe, efficient, and highquality manufacturing operations while upholding Amcor's Safety Absolutes, GMP standards, and production goals. The Shift Supervisor promotes teamwork, maintains strong communication across departments and shifts, and ensures that all policies, processes, and expectations are consistently followed.

Primary Responsibilities Safety Leadership
  • Accountable for the safety of all employees on the shift through active engagement, monitoring, and coaching.
  • Communicate clear and consistent safety expectations in all shift meetings and daily interactions.
  • Support and investigate equipment or line stoppages due to perceived or imminent safety risks; ensure immediate corrective actions.
  • Lead required safety meetings (PreShift, Department, Change Management, and general communication).
  • Conduct incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Drive risk assessment activities within the assigned area, prioritizing corrective and preventive actions to eliminate or reduce EHS risks.
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee daily shift operations to ensure safe, efficient, and highquality production.
  • Review machine priorities and assign operators and technicians accordingly.
  • Monitor machine performance, process issues, and production variances; ensure timely resolution of nonconformances.
  • Inspect all production areas at shift start and perform shifttoshift handoff reviews with the previous supervisor.
  • Process and enter production data for all machines and work orders.
  • Ensure adherence to all Amcor and departmental policies, procedures, GMPs, and food safety requirements.
People Leadership & Development
  • Provide effective leadership, direction, and support to lead operators, machine operators, and technicians.
  • Ensure employees receive proper onboarding, training, and ongoing development.
  • Delegate daily work assignments and follow up to ensure completion and quality of work.
  • Set and communicate shiftlevel goals; ensure all employees understand expectations and work toward achieving them.
  • Motivate and coach employees through regular communication, performance feedback, and reinforcement of positive behaviors.
  • Identify and coordinate additional training needs.
  • Review and maintain attendance records and timekeeping compliance; approve timecards when required.
  • Conduct scheduled performance evaluations and ensure equitable enforcement of all Company policies.
  • Address and resolve employee concerns or complaints following company guidelines.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Complete responsibilities in accordance with company policies, quality systems, and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Maintain high GMP and food safety standards at all times.
  • Document safety incidents, shift handoffs, production issues, and employee performance matters accurately and promptly.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, twist, and lift up to 35 lbs. as needed.
  • Ability to maintain acceptable attendance and work overtime as required.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to coach, motivate, and develop employees.
  • Strong communication, problemsolving, and decisionmaking abilities.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn production systems.
Preferred
  • Functional understanding of injection molding processes, including technical equipment, auxiliary equipment, SPC, and production scheduling.
  • Experience working in a foodgrade or GMPregulated environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, safety programs, and continuous improvement techniques.

Physical Demands

The physical requirements of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Frequent walking and standing throughout the production floor during a typical 8-12hour shift.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling materials or equipment up to 35 lbs., with or without assistance.
  • Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and reaching to inspect equipment, observe operations, or assist operators.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs or ladders to access mezzanines, platforms, or elevated work areas.
  • Manual dexterity to handle small components, operate controls, and use computers or handheld devices.
  • Visual ability to read production documentation, observe machine operation, and identify safety or quality concerns.
  • Hearing ability to communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment and respond to audible alarms, equipment sounds, and safety signals.
  • Ability to maintain alertness and situational awareness while working near moving machinery, forklifts, and automated equipment.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hats, hair nets, beard nets (if applicable) safety glasses, steeltoed shoes, hearing protection, gloves, and other items as required.

Work Environment

The work environment for this role includes:

  • A plastics production facility with automated machinery, injection molding equipment, conveyors, robotics, compressors, and auxiliary systems.
  • Exposure to moderate to high noise levels, requiring hearing protection in designated areas.
  • Temperature variations, including elevated heat near molding machines and cooling systems or cooler conditions near raw material storage areas.
  • Regular presence around moving mechanical parts, powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and automated systems.
  • Potential exposure to plastic resins, colorants, lubricants, cleaners, and airborne particulates, handled with proper PPE and hazard controls.
  • Fastpaced production environment that may require quick decisionmaking, shift prioritization, and frequent communication across teams.
  • Routine interaction with machine operators, maintenance technicians, quality personnel, and leadership staff.
  • Work may require overtime, offshift support, or weekend coverage during peak production or staffing needs.
  • Must follow and enforce Amcor's Safety Absolutes, GMP standards, food safety requirements, and all company policies while on the production floor.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000
