Overview

The Opportunity

The Director of Scheduling will serve as the enterprise leader responsible for the full oversight, performance, and strategic direction of the Walbridge Scheduling Department across large-scale, manufacturing, mission-critical data center and general construction programs.

This role provides executive-level leadership and accountability for scheduling operations companywide, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, project performance standards, contractual obligations, and financial targets. Reporting into senior leadership, this position plays a critical role in influencing operational strategy, supporting business growth, and driving enterprise-wide schedule governance.

The Director of Scheduling will directly lead and manage a team of approximately 20-25 schedulers of varying experience levels located across multiple project sites and regions. This individual is responsible for building team capability, establishing standardized processes, ensuring resource alignment, and elevating the overall maturity of scheduling practices throughout the organization.

This position requires a strategic leader who can operate confidently in executive settings while maintaining hands-on engagement to support project teams and resolve complex schedule challenges.

Location

This is a Headquarters-staffed position based in Metro Detroit.

You will be required to work from our Headquarters in downtown Detroit and travel to project sites as needed. Travel to project sites, primarily in the Midwest and Southeast, is required.



Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities

    Provide full leadership and accountability for the Walbridge Scheduling Department
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of approximately 20-25 schedulers across varying levels of experience and geographic locations
  • Establish and lead enterprise scheduling standards, governance, and best practices
  • Develop and oversee program-level and portfolio master schedules across multiple concurrent projects
  • Align scheduling strategy with business objectives, operational performance, and client commitments
  • Serve as the executive subject matter expert on scheduling for senior leadership and corporate leadership forums
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to executive leadership regarding schedule risk, performance trends, portfolio exposure, and enterprise-level impacts
  • Lead schedule development from preconstruction through project closeout
  • Support new work pursuits by developing conceptual, proposal, and GMP schedules
  • Participate in executive-level client presentations and strategic business development efforts
  • Analyze critical path activities and proactively manage schedule risk
  • Develop and implement recovery plans and mitigation strategies for at-risk milestones
  • Integrate scheduling with project controls, cost forecasting, and earned value analysis
  • Perform and oversee time impact analysis (TIA) and delay analysis
  • Provide schedule expertise during contract review, change management, and claims avoidance discussions
  • Proactively identify enterprise-level schedule risks and implement mitigation strategies to protect financial and operational performance
  • Partner with Project Executives, Operations Leadership, and client stakeholders to ensure alignment and accountability
  • Drive continuous improvement in scheduling tools, technology platforms, reporting systems, and workflows
  • Support hiring, succession planning, workforce planning, performance management, and long-term capability development of the scheduling organization


Qualifications

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related technical discipline
  • 15+ years of progressive construction scheduling experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing scheduling teams across multiple projects and geographic locations
  • Experience supporting large-scale construction projects valued at $50M+, with exposure to $100M-$300M+ programs preferred
  • Experience in mission critical, data center, general construction, electrical, or infrastructure sectors
  • Demonstrated experience managing scheduling across multiple concurrent projects or programs
  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
  • Experience integrating schedule performance with cost forecasting and project controls
  • Strong understanding of contractual scheduling requirements and change management processes
  • Ability to operate effectively in executive-level settings and influence senior leadership decision-making
  • Willingness to travel to project sites is required

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Experience leading scheduling operations at a regional or enterprise level
  • Understanding of mission critical sequencing, commissioning milestones, and phased turnover environments
  • Experience supporting pursuit strategy and client-facing schedule presentations
  • Proficiency with internal business software and databases, including SharePoint and CMIC
