Payroll Accounting Manager

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Payroll Accounting Manager to oversee the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of payroll and related financial data. This is an accounting-focused role responsible for ensuring payroll processes are accurate, reconciled to accounting records, and compliant with all applicable regulations.

The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, hands-on payroll experience, and the ability to independently review, reconcile, and validate payroll results with a high level of accuracy. This role requires someone who understands payroll from an accounting perspective and can serve as a trusted partner to Finance and HR teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Accounting & Integration



  • Independently review payroll calculations, deductions, taxes, and job costing prior to processing.
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and other accounting records; investigate and resolve variances.
  • Ensure payroll data integrity and alignment with accounting practices.


Accounting-Oriented Payroll Expertise



  • Apply strong accounting judgment to all payroll activities.
  • Manage complex payroll scenarios, including multi-state compliance, wage requirements, and union payroll (if applicable).
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert on payroll-related accounting matters.


Compliance, Controls & Audit Support



  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls related to payroll.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Identify risks proactively and implement process improvements.


Collaboration & Reporting



  • Prepare payroll and financial reports for Finance, Accounting, and leadership.
  • Partner closely with HR and Accounting to resolve payroll issues and support organizational initiatives.
  • Support process improvements and system enhancements related to payroll and financial reporting.


Qualifications:



  • Strong accounting background with hands-on payroll experience.
  • Experience reviewing, reconciling, and validating payroll and related financial data.
  • Knowledge of payroll compliance, tax regulations, and general ledger integration.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with Finance and HR teams.
