Job Description Summary:
The Milken Institute School of Public Health is the school of public health of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. U.S. News & World Report University Rankings ranks the Milken SPH as the 11th best public health graduate program in the United States.

An Associate Director, PRISMA Consortium position is available in the Milken Institute School of Public Health Department of Global Health. This leadership position will develop, maintain, and advance research awards within the Pregnancy Risk, Infant Surveillance, and Measurement Alliance ( PRISMA) Consortium, funded by the Gates Foundation and led by Dr. Emily Smith.

The PRISMA Consortium is a global network dedicated to producing quality data to answer key questions about maternal, fetal, and infant health. It encompasses a portfolio of research grants and involves partner institutions across six countries.

The Associate Director, PRISMA Consortium will be responsible for managing the administrative aspects of the PRISMA Consortium. Tasks include administering awards, grants, and contracts, ensuring compliance and providing oversight, developing and preserving intellectual property rights, and managing research programs.

This role typically shares research and analysis in high-impact publications, reports, as well as at relevant technical conferences, forums, and events. This position leads staff and continually coordinates with PRISMA Consortium partners to ensure funded research is conducted in accordance with established agreements. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training, and mentoring, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the management of awards, grants, and contracts. Ensure that subcontracts are carried out in line with established agreements. Prepare annual project progress and budget reports for the Gates Foundation for multiple awards.
  • Lead a team of Project Managers in research management and oversee their time, workload, and vacation requests.
  • Make hiring decisions and provide coaching, training, mentoring, and performance management, and determine future staffing needs.
  • Guide international research partners in sharing research and analysis in high-impact publications, reports, as well as at relevant technical conferences, forum, and events.
  • Set functional strategies and objectives focusing on mid-term operational plans (1-2 years) that align with the research group and funder strategy.
  • Serve as the primary authority for ensuring all research activities adhere to university, state, and international regulations. Maintain data use agreements and systematize procedures for processing external data sharing requests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.



Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's in public health or epidemiology preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in funding procurement, award administration, and financial management for scientific grants.
  • Track record of scientific publications.
  • Experience in research subject matter.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with diverse, international collaborators.
  • Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.

Hiring Range $94,200.05 - $183,513.91
