Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary or hourly range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $16.90- $22.00.

Job Closing Date

About the Job

This position involves conducting experiential labor research and education under the guidance of an academic coordinator at the Community and Labor Center. Students will engage in a wide range of activities, including outreach, one-on-one engagement, public education on workers' rights, and assisting workers with documentation and resource access. Responsibilities may also include organizing workers through site visits and phone banking, facilitating trainings and orientations, planning events, developing communications materials, and conducting policy or legislative research to support advocacy efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct outreach, one on ones, and public education on worker rights.

  • Help workers find resources for filling out documents.

  • Support with logistics, and assist with communications, and conduct policy/legislative research.
    Organize workers, conducting outreach, worksite visits, house visits and phone banking; conduct one-on-ones, conducting recruitment, member maintenance and participation; and provide education including public education (canvassing, tabling) and popular education (new worker orientations, training workers on 1:1 skills). Service workers, helping members find resources and fill documents (i.e. citizenship, etc.).

  • Logistics, including event planning and coordination.

  • Communications, such as using computer software (Canva fliers), digital media, storytelling (interviews with members), or public comments/ speaker training (assist with talking points).

  • Research, including policy/legislative research (finding data, prepping factsheets).
