Job Summary

Oversee shop operations within a moderate to large facility involving the design and fabrication of components, devices and assemblies in accordance with design specifications. Manage maintenance of shop facility including personnel, inventories, equipment and records. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and research faculty, shop employees, students and vendors. This position typically will advise and counsel: shop employees and customers. This position will supervise: shop employees which typically include machinists, instrument makers and welders.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Review workload, set priorities and plan daily shop operations.

Job Duty 2 -
Manage shop personnel (which may include supervisors) in design and fabrication processes.

Job Duty 3 -
Maintain material and supply inventory levels and storage; place orders and re-orders as needed and maintain related records.

Job Duty 4 -
Instruct shop supervisors and personnel in new or revised processes and procedures.

Job Duty 5 -
Assist shop customers in specifying shop service needs.

Job Duty 6 -
Maintain records and generate reports related to shop operations.

Job Duty 7 -
Make certain that shop machinery and equipment are maintained in working order.

Job Duty 8 -
Monitor and review shop personnel performance, make recommendations for development as appropriate.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Other Required Qualifications
Overnight travel requhoped for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours Degree or two years college course (due to client shift schedules, project requhopements).

Required Experience
Seven to nine years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or two years college course work

Preferred Qualifications

This job requires a high working knowledge of using CAD/CAM software for 3, 4 and 5 axis machining, plus equipment, processes and procedures involved with operation of a large, complex machine shop facility within a research environment.

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of the equipment, processes and procedures involved with operation of a large, complex machine shop facility within a research or instructional environment. Other required skills include: organization and management, planning, inventory control, customer service, communications and use of specialized computer applications.

Salary range is dependent on candidates' experiences and skills that ranges from $65,393.00- $88,934.00
