Minimum Experience/Education

  • 3-5 years of experience as a stage manager or production manager working with Theatre, Dance, or Music. Success training and managing run crews of differing ability.
  • Bachelor's degree in the performing arts
  • Ability to read music
  • Familiarity with QLab and/or ION lighting consoles.
  • program in QLab, and/or experience working with the ION lighting console

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Run and manage music performances as needed in the College of Arts + Architecture during the 2025-2026 Academic Year.
  • Call/supervise all theatrical elements of each performance, including lights, sound, video, and stage hands.
  • Assist in the supervision of student run crews, who have a wide range of experience and skill.
  • Practice industry standards as well as follow all UNCC policy and safety standards for the students workers, performers, and guests.
  • Communicate and work professionally with conductors, directors, faculty, staff, and students to ensure a successful performance.
  • Primary work schedule matches the music performance schedule for the Academic Year. Majority of performances occur 6:00 - 10:00 pm Monday-Friday. May have limited shifts on Saturday and Sunday. Other hours may be needed to match the performance schedule in the College of Arts + Architecture. Detailed schedule of events will be distributed during interview process.

Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Work directly with each ensemble director and front of house managers to ensure performance starts on time and as desired.
  • Following each performance, complete and send a performance report to identified personnel.
  • Oversee pre and post performance needs which may include setting up and striking concert shell, music stands and chairs, instruments, and flown elements, etc.
  • Assist in stage changeovers / set ups between concerts, including but not limited to piano, orchestra shell, and risers.
  • Other responsibilities could include running lights or sound during a performance, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Individual must be comfortable working at heights including working in catwalks or a genie lift, safely carrying items weighing 40 lbs, using hand trucks, carts, and working on their feet for extended periods of time.
