Job Description:

As a Principal Engineer in Microchip's Automotive Products Group (APG), you will serve as a critical technical interface among Microchip's business units, automotive customers, and field sales teams. Your primary focus will be to drive design wins and secure new automotive business by ensuring that new product development aligns with automotive design, test, manufacturing, and reliability standards. You will also support customer evaluations by addressing inquiries related to Microchip's capabilities, manufacturing processes, quality systems, and product offerings.

Job Responsibilities

  • Guide and advise new silicon product development teams to ensure products meet automotive market requirements for design-for-test, reliability, outlier detection, and AEC-Q100 qualification.
  • Take ownership of investigating and preparing responses to customer non-standard questions and requests (NSCARs), gathering and presenting information from various internal sources.
  • Support and ensure compliance with automotive industry standards, including IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, and change management processes.
  • Collaborate with and lead informal cross-functional teams to address technical and business challenges.
  • Review and approve Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding proposed product changes and technical details.
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key automotive customers and internal stakeholders.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 10+ years of experience in the semiconductor industry, or Masters degree in engineering with 7.5-9 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Strong customer engagement skills and enjoyment of customer interaction.
  • Excellent critical thinking and persuasive communication abilities.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English; additional language skills are a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 26262, and ISO 21434 standards.
  • Understanding of transistor operation and digital semiconductor device functionality.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor design, wafer manufacturing, packaging, and testing processes.
  • Experience with AEC-Q100 reliability test requirements and methods for automotive applications.
  • Proficient in PPAP requirements and able to explain their contents.
  • Skilled in persuasive speaking and negotiation.

Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $75,000 - $232,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
