About the New York Genome Center

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's), and cancer.

Located in Lower Manhattan, the NYGC was founded by and remains closely affiliated with the leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions. Essential to our collaborative work is an outstanding faculty, whose members typically hold a joint appointment at NYGC and a partner university. They support our scientific mission by conducting independent research in areas of mutual interest to us and the wider scientific community.

Internship Program Description

NYGC's Summer Internship Program is designed to provide students hands-on mentorship from an assigned mentor in one of our research labs. As an NYGC intern, you will gain exposure to the research that we do, gain hands-on experience in a research setting, and collaborate with top researchers and intellectual leaders in genomics. In addition, interns will be afforded the opportunity to attend and participate in a wide variety of programming aimed at professional networking and career development, including weekly workshops, presentations, career panels, social events and much more.

The 2026 Summer Internship Program includes a summer stipend ($8,000) and is expected to last 8 weeks, from June 22, 2026 - August 14, 2026.

About the MacMillan CSNCG

The MacMillan Center for the Study of the Non-coding Cancer Genome (CSNCG) is a multidisciplinary group focused on understanding the role and function of the non-coding genome and epigenome in cancer occurrence, progression, and treatment response. The MacMillan CSNCG is working to develop new measurement technologies, perform proof-of-concept experiments, generate unique and valuable datasets, and develop mathematical models to interpret those data, that will transform our understanding of the non-coding genome and its role in cancer. As a Center, the MacMillan CSNCG has a strong interest in engaging and training the next generation of scientists in genomics and biomedical research.

* Undergraduate student in a related course of study

* Available to work full-time on their project for the duration of the internship
