Job Description Summary:
The Accounting Director is a service-minded professional and a key part of the Finance Department who is responsible for supporting and supervising various aspects of accounting functions at The People Concern. This position will serve as the manager of the AP/AR team, will provide key support for government and private audits, will assist in monitoring, preparing and/or performing general ledger entries, will oversee month-end close activities, will review and ensure the accuracy of balance sheet accounts, and review grant transactions for proper coding and classification.
Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the AP/AR team and maintains quality controls associated with the AP/AR process including credit card management systems and other third-party systems related to these functions.
- Responsible for the full cycle of accounts payable/receivable process and data integrity.
- Manages and leads the month-end closing process, ensuring timely closing and fiscal data accuracy.
- Monitors the closing of subsystems and journal postings in the GL for accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and payroll.
- Maintains GL by reviewing accounts for discrepancies, preparing, and entering adjusting journal entries, and ensures that the GL is managed in accordance with GAAP, FASB and agency policies and procedures.
- Performs and manages reconciliation of balance sheet asset and liability accounts.
- Perform maintenance and recording of fixed assets and equipment, including additions, deletions, depreciation and dispositions.
- Ensures the accuracy of transactions and allocations related to government contracts and private grants income and expenses.
- Assists in the preparation and management of contracts, grants and corporate audits.
- Assists in the development of and implementation of accounting procedures; including recommending changes.
- Monitors cost allocation schedules and work with fiscal grants management team with updating allocation methodologies and data that drives budget and contract performance.
- Develops, prepares, and maintains reports and analyses for management that support preparation of financial statements, expense tracking, and internal control management.
- Performs and assists in the completion of bank reconciliations.
- Stays current with government regulations and assists with preparation and coordination of audits and annual tax and 1099s filings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Description Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3-5 years of experience working in a Finance Department in a supervisory role with a team of 4+ members with an understanding of accounting standards and principles.
- 3-5+ years' experience performing non-profit accounting
- Experience with multiple non-profit accounting software solutions, especially QuickBooks Enterprise.
- Ability to understand cost allocations and government grant requirements.
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial systems best practices.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Work and Excel). 8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Possesses problem solving and conflict resolution skills and exercises professional judgement.
- Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced, professional environment.
Job Description Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
