Job Description

The Building Trades Specialist (BTS) position is part of the Campus Facilities Management (CFM) team and is responsible for performing skilled work on a journey level in various building trades such as painting, carpentry, and masonry. Ideal candidates will enjoy working both indoors and outdoors and take pride in maintaining visually appealing spaces for faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors at our newest building located in St. Joesph, Missouri.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform repair, service and maintenance of the physical structure of one or more buildings.
  • Perform all custodial duties including cleaning the restrooms, restocking supplies, cleaning the floors, emptying trash, etc.
  • Maintain the building grounds by mowing, trimming, picking up trash, and general upkeep of the landscaping.
  • May prepare building areas and surfaces to be painted: cover floors and furniture, set up ladders and scaffolding. Apply paint to structures with necessary tools.
  • Perform construction, maintenance, repair and alterations of the building structure. May repair woodwork, install screens, cabinets and window glass, repair doors and door closures.
  • Construct, maintain and repair building structures using masonry materials. May break up existing masonry structures, mix materials and repair plaster. May lay tile or brick.
  • Utilize a variety of necessary tools and mechanical equipment for each trade required for the repair, maintenance and service of the building. Notify supervisor of tasks requiring other trades staff.
  • May perform or assist with preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports, and maintenance of records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift

8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities are acquired.
  • Four years actual work experience and training including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training in a building trade is required.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in the trade.
  • A valid Missouri driver's license is required.
  • Ability daily to:
    • Grasp, lift, carry and set down heavy objects (50-75 lbs.)
    • Shovel snow, climb ladders and operate heavy power equipment.
    • Depending on nature of work performed, may be required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the "Industrial Standard for Respirator Use".
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $24.00 to $26.00 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
