The NASA-KSC Artemis Program requires a engineer to support the operations oversight and programmatic operations for recovery and processing the Artemis II and beyond flight vehicles. The candidate will be responsible for developing the infrastructure, equipment, and processes to conduct the integration, ground processing, launch, and recovery of the Orion spacecraft. Primary duties consist of supporting the communication/imagery team for landing and recovery operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preferred experience with imagery gimbals and drones used to support Artemis landing and recovery operations in San Diego Naval Base.
  • Extensive experience in software communications systems, particularly with the NASA IT processes, is also preferred.
  • Responsibility includes creating operational plans, schedules and coordination with the L&R stakeholders to agree and execute plans to achieve successful implementation with multiple external organizations, contractors and DoD Navy Assets.
  • Support both Pre and Post L&R Underway Recovery Training events leading up to and including Artemis mission recovery, requiring travel. Coordinate program processes to ensure consistent ground processing planning strategies support transition to Operations with Operations Project Engineers (OPEs).
  • Assist the identification of risks associated with Landing & Recovery Operations and processing of the Command Module (CM).
  • Facilitate EGS Program Operations and Maintenance Controlled Requirements (OMCR) Management Plan point of contact (POC) for Landing & Recovery GSE. Support necessary technical meetings, coordinating stakeholders to manage cost, schedule, and technical considerations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Self-starter with outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective and clear communicator with the ability to present technical issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment co-located with multiple cross program customers and contractors.
  • Flexible to changing work demands, multi-task, operate with minimal direct supervision, and meet all customer deadlines.
  • Proven work (senior-level) as a cohesive team member with many different technical experts in a dynamic schedule-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as commercial business applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferably experience in launch vehicle, launch vehicle systems/subsystems, facility, test integration, and operations.
  • Knowledge of vehicle landing and recovery Concept of Operations development, integration, and implementation.
  • Proficiency in technical document review to include design drawings.

Education & Work Experience:

  • The SME position requires a PhD in Engineering, or four years of related experience for the skills specified, and 15 years of relevant work experience.
