Networking Systems Intern

What success looks like in this role:

Under direct supervision, a Networking Systems Student Technical Intern is responsible for the setup, configuration, and support of Unisys ClearPath system. These systems are Enterprise Class servers based on Dell and other third-party vendor hardware. The setup and configuration includes not only the ClearPath system but its associated storage, cards, switches, and cabling. Much of this work may involve the process of tearing down and setting up our entire Engineering Lab in a new location.

The Student Technical Intern will perform a subset of the following tasks:

  • Participates in disassembling and assembling ClearPath systems and supporting infrastructure
  • Installing system software and firmware
  • Uses learned processes, standards, and tools on assigned project(s)
  • Learns a product, tool, or technical area relying on technical staff for domain knowledge
  • Works independently or as an effective team member
  • Identifies and escalates issues as required.
  • Gains awareness of requirements in area of defined tasks
  • Receives and understands projects and task estimates from senior staff members
  • Provides status (written or verbal) on work efforts as required

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • Student enrolled in an associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Technology Support and Administration, or other computer technology related area
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware
  • Knowledge of system software and firmware installation
  • Problem solving
  • Able to learn and apply new technologies quickly
  • Has a natural curiosity for technology
  • Able to work effectively in a team oriented environment or as an independent contributor
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Administer, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot the Windows Server and operating systems

This role may require access to export-controlled commodities and technology. Therefore, to conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government.
