This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule upon completion of training and at the discretion of leadership, in alignment with the School of Professional Studies currently approved telework policy.
The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. This position must also be flexible to accommodate offsite corporate training classes, which may require earlier start times.

Primary Purpose of Department
The School of Professional Studies ( SPS) reports to the division of Academic Affairs, under the leadership of the Associate Provost. The School of Professional Studies works collaboratively with departments, colleges, and academic support units to ensure integrated partnerships for enrollment growth, student success, and faculty effectiveness in teaching.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Business Development Director's primary focus will be to drive Corporate and Executive training program revenue and growth with new and current organizations. Programs are delivered through face-to-face instruction, online and hybrid formats.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Business Development Director is responsible for:

  • Driving revenue growth and expanding the reach of Corporate Training and Executive Education through the development of strong corporate partnerships and customized learning solutions.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for corporate clients, expertly guiding organizations through the end-to-end customized training process - from initial discovery and needs assessment through solution design, proposal development, and contract execution - ultimately closing agreements and generating revenue.
  • Accountable for meeting established financial goals by securing new clients, expanding relationships with existing accounts, and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction that lead to repeat business.
  • Requires a proactive, results-oriented professional who can identify opportunities, solve problems, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Working closely with the Corporate Training and Executive Education team and instructors.
  • Ensures that proposed solutions are aligned with client needs and are delivered effectively across face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Stays informed of emerging trends in talent management, leadership development, and learning and development to position offerings competitively and strategically.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to follow-up, and a commitment to relationship management are essential to success in this role.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • 4 years of relevant business-to-business sales experience;
  • 3 years of significant work experience in, and/or knowledge of, the training and adult / continuing education field;
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 4 - 7+ years of demonstrated success in B2B sales, with a proven ability to generate revenue and manage the full sales cycle, including prospecting, needs assessment, solution development, contract negotiation, and closing. A consistent track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth is required.
  • 3 - 5+ years of experience and/or demonstrated knowledge in corporate training, adult learning, or continuing education, including needs assessment, program design and delivery, market and competitive analysis, pricing and budgeting, instructor selection, and evaluation of program and instructional effectiveness. Familiarity with both in-person and online non-credit programming is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Charlotte metropolitan market, including established professional networks, industry knowledge, and an understanding of regional workforce and organizational development needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop compelling proposals, clearly articulate customized learning solutions, and effectively translate organizational challenges into training and development recommendations for corporate clients.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform responsibilities accurately and independently in a fast-paced, results-driven environment with strong attention to detail.
