Job Title: Environmental Compliance Specialist

Summary: Environmental Compliance is a top priority at NRG. We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our expanding team as our business grows. This position will support our power plant operations by focusing on environmental compliance issues including coordinating audits conducted by an outside consulting firm and using AI tools to improve our understanding of and adherence to responsibilities per permits and regulations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support NRG's Environmental Audit program through coordinating third party (consulting firm) audits, reviewing draft audit reports, etc.
  • Review environmental permits and regulations to identify resulting requirements (including using AI to support the review)
  • Support corporate environmental programs and initiatives

Leading to Expanded Responsibilities, Including:

  • Act as internal environmental auditor supporting in-house multimedia environmental compliance audits
  • Identify Environmental compliance trends across NRG's operations (focused primarily on NRG's power plant sites)
  • Support company-wide communications to share best practices and lessons learned across the plants, as applicable
  • Become proficient in and provide support to NRG staff re: NRG's Environmental Management Information System software (Intelex)
  • Respond to environmental events at NRG facilities, as required
Working Conditions:
  • Primarily corporate office (Princeton, NJ, Pittsburgh, PA, or Houston, TX), some travel to power plants, agency meetings, and industry/technical conferences

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or related discipline and 2 or more years of experience in the environmental field, or master's degree in engineering, science or related discipline plus relevant experience (including internship experience)
  • General knowledge of major environmental laws (CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, etc.) and their requirements, including relevant federal, state and regional regulations and policies
  • General knowledge of industrial plant operations and the associated environmental compliance programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting environmental compliance audits and/or Environmental Site Assessments of industrial facilities
  • Intermediate to expert level capabilities in Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge and utilization of AI tools and bots
  • Experience with Environmental Management Information Systems (software)

  • Must be a self-motivated, organized, energetic and committed team player
  • Ability to communicate (both orally and in writing) technical and regulatory topics effectively and with appropriate supporting data
  • Critical and analytical thinking
  • Interest in, and aptitude for, solving problems in a practical, business-oriented manner
  • Ability to perform as part of a multi-disciplinary team and achieve optimal outcomes in a matrixed organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

The base salary range for this position is: $66,320 - 109,428 *The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
