The Advanced Practice Provider Surgical Specialty Care provides specialized care to patients with high acuity needs in a hospital setting in collaboration with physician(s). The APP works primarily in a hospital setting and sometimes in a clinical setting, and assesses patients, interprets diagnostic test/results, and develops and implements treatment plans to address the patient's unique needs in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Surgical Specialty Care includes Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular surgery, Vascular, Neurosurgery, and Gynecology Surgery.

Essential Job Function
  • Performs physical assessments of the patient, reviews their medical history, and interprets diagnostic tests/results in order to provide effective treatment for the patient.
  • Conducts preventive health screenings based on the patient's age, history, and unique needs to provide proactive health care.
  • Educates patients and their family about surgical specialty care medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Maintains record of all patient care in order to ensure accurate patient history.
  • Performs surgical specialty care medical procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines and clinical roles.
  • Identifies ways to improve surgical specialty patient care by assessing, problem-solving, and evaluating clinical and system issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
  • Required: Master Degree Nursing or Master Degree Physician Assistant studies. Physician Assistant employed at Cone Health prior to October 14, 2024 with a Bachelor Degree will have the Master Degree requirement waived provided they have maintained employment and PA licensure with Board Certification.

Experience
  • Required: NonePreferred: 3+ years

  • Required:Valid NC RN and Nurse Midwife or NP license OR NC PA licenseBoard Certified within 1 year of date of hire by either the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for PA's OR the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for NP's OR the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) or The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare ProviderNeonatal Resuscitation Protocol (NRP) Certification required for Neonatal Advanced Practice ProvidersIVC Certified within 90 days of employment for Behavorial Health Advance Practice Provider
