The UC San Diego Office of Campus Counsel provides legal advice, manages litigation, reviews university policies, retains outside counsel, and works closely with other administrative offices to ensure legal compliance and to respond to disputes. The Chief Campus Counsel/Associate General Counsel reports to the Chancellor and to the Senior Vice President for Legal Affairs & General Counsel. The Chief Counsel, UC San Diego Health, reports to the Chief Campus Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel, Health Affairs and Technology Law, but also has a functional reporting line to the Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences and the Chief Executive Officer of UC San Diego Health. There is a direct reporting line between the Chief Counsel, UC San Diego Health to the Chief Executive Officer of UC San Diego Health as it relates to their oversight and management responsibility over UC San Diego Health Risk Management. Reporting to the Chief Counsel, UC San Diego Health, the Principal Counsel serves as lead counsel on a full range of risk management, transactional, and regulatory affairs at UC San Diego Health as directed. Independently handles complex legal matters and projects, to include those which hold substantial importance and impact. Works closely with the Health Sciences leadership, Risk Management, Regulatory Affairs, and School of Medicine leadership to provide legal counsel on faculty affairs, transactional, and regulatory matters. Possesses and demonstrates a commitment to working collegially in a fast-paced, high-volume, and complex environment that often includes responding to telephone calls and emails after normal business hours. Provides expert advice and negotiation on legal and regulatory issues impacting health care clinical operations and educational and research affairs. Communicates effectively in writing and verbally with diverse clients and other stakeholders. Provides due diligence while assisting with the development of effective compliance and risk mitigation strategies to facilitate the University's mission. ~Cover letter required for a complete application. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $176,100 - $355,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $84.34 - $170.45 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
