This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking, accomplished team of rocket engine propellant feed line and ancillary manufacturing engineers, you will support builds and fabrication. You will work closely with the design engineering team, manufacturing technicians, and the operations team to ensure timely deliveries in support of our engine programs. As the off-shift ME, you will work continuous improvement efforts in conjunction with supporting scheduled deliveries. Through your technical skill and a shared passion for our mission you will have a lasting impact on both the engines business unit and the future of access to space.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, develop, implement, optimize and sustain rocket engine tube fabrication workorders, test processes, and tube/duct/flex line assemblies.
  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and specifications into fully functional hardware by developing manufacturing work instructions that clearly define the following manufacturing processes: tube fabrication, welding, heat treating, non-destructive testing, and precision cleaning.
  • Closely manage the fabrication process including sequence, cost, quality and schedule of hardware on a daily basis.
  • Conduct manufacturing simulations, DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and build.
  • Apply emerging AI technologies alongside traditional manufacturing engineering tools to optimize processes, reduce cycle times, and improve first-time quality
  • Perform root cause analysis when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain BOMs, routings, and work instructions for propellant feed lines and their respective assemblies.
  • Create/modify manufacturing work instructions to disposition Non-conformances quickly.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing methodology for process development, improvement and problem solving.
  • Design, procure, install, and qualify custom manufacturing equipment/fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot and operate equipment as required.
  • Collaborate closely with internal customers (M&P engineers, test technicians, manufacturing engineers, management and design/analysis engineers) to define requirements and align tools to meet company objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience designing tooling to aid manufacture, assembly, and testing
  • Experience working across shifts to ensure smooth handoffs in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Hands on experience with hardware manufacturing processes (tube forming, welding, heat treating, surface and volumetric non-destructive testing, high pressure proof testing, and precision cleaning)
  • Extensive prior experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace and/or automotive is preferred.
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience writing work instructions in a digital manufacturing execution system
  • Strong digital literacy across many software packages (CAD, MS Office, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Creo, Windchill, Tableau, Databricks, LLM's, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, project management, and presentation skills (Gantt charting, JIRA tickets, MS Project, WIKI, or similar)
  • Understanding of statistical process control, capability analysis, control charting and measurement systems analysis (e.g. Gage R&R, DOE's, capability analysis, control charting (CPK), six sigma tools)
  • Proven history of manufacturing process improvements
  • Attention to detail and drive to deliver results.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
