Position Summary

Are you a curious person? Are you motivated by trying to understand ways to make education work better for all students?
The Director of First-Year Engineering and Integrative Engineering is seeking a research assistant to contribute to education research projects aimed at student support and success. The research projects will include ongoing projects and newly developed projects to support UNM students.

As a Research Assistant, you will provide support to the Director by:

* Qualitative data analysis of interviews and text data
* Statistical analysis of institutional data and survey data
* Creating visual data summaries

* Attending research meetings with other collaborators
* Conducting educational research interviews or observations (in some cases, after being trained)
* Managing and archiving data and files
* Scheduling and maintaining agendas for research meetings
* Other job-related duties as assigned

You would be joining a cross-institutional team that collaborates to focus on equitable access to engineering education. You may find yourself contributing to multiple different ongoing and newly conceived research projects. Ongoing research efforts in the group include:

1. understanding and supporting the pathways of low-income computing students to attend graduate school,
2. understanding the ways engineering faculty reason about and learn about their students with respect to racial equity,
3. and supporting student agency to become leaders and change agents within their own educational institutions.
Newly conceived research efforts in the group include:
1. interviewing UNM students and alumni to create arts-based representations of the ways engineers and engineering work integrate multiple aspects of personal, social, and technical domains,
2. investigating the funds of knowledge of communities across New Mexico to better support them within UNM engineering education,
3. and examining experiences and systems affecting math journeys and engineering professional access in UNM.
