The Florida Area is looking for a Transmission Leader to support the number one developer in the United States. This HDR client holds a footprint in 49 states and leads the way in capital infrastructure for various transmission & renewable related projects.

The primary duty of the Power Delivery Leader includes responsibility for knowledge and execution of the program set, technical aspects; and deliverables of projects assigned. HDR is looking for a competent engineering lead who understands and can complete technical requirements of projects from moderate to complex.

As part of the Team Lead responsibility, candidate would be required to support growth of a substation & transmission line team. This leader will work with and assign tasks to junior level staff and provide technical mentorship to the team. Coordination and assignment of quality control reviews for work performed by junior level engineers and/or designers falls within the responsibility of the power delivery lead.

This position also entails working with senior engineers and the Business Class Leader to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.

HDR is looking for a self-motivated candidate who works independently who can direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced engineers, EIT's and/or designers.

The Power Delivery Lead will establish strong client relationships in the region and an in-depth understanding of the clients' business objectives to determine the most effective execution strategies, then build local teams and/or leverage existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class services to those clients. The power delivery lead will also manage individual projects within their technical expertise.

Specific duties include:

  • Responsible for monitoring, growing and participating in the execution of HDR's portfolio of Power Delivery services throughout Florida and the Southeast region.
  • Assist regional and national leadership in growing the power delivery program by developing new client programs, enhancing our position with existing clients and implementing our long-term strategy in the market.
  • Participate in development of strong client relationships and serve as a key client manager for key / selected clients.
  • Provide technical leadership/project management to ensure projects have appropriate staff and that the quality program is implemented effectively.
  • Work closely with the PM's to develop and refine Project Execution Plans and lead subsequent execution of such plans, including safety, quality management, risk management, communication, staffing, change management, commercial management, etc.
  • Drive consistency across multiple transmission projects regardless of discipline.
  • Work closely with PMs and Task Leads to scope projects, including site visits interfacing with Contractor, Owner, and internal teams.
  • Work closely with EMs, task leads and HDR technical leads to identify and mitigate technical risk (staffing skillsets and availability).
  • Work closely with PMs to identify and mitigate financial and schedule risk (earned value metrics and change management).
  • Work with teams across multiple projects in multiple offices to develop and implement best practices relative to transmission line and substation engineering and design.
  • Work with PMs to oversee program / project setup, reporting and closeout.
  • Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more staff.
  • Responsible for quality control reviews in accordance with HDR's policy.
  • Dedicated full time to the program as a process subject matter expert.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field
  • Professional Engineering License
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • PMI Program Management Professions (PgMP) certification
  • CMAA Certified Construction Manager (CCM) Certification
  • AICP Certification
  • Experience participating in the consultant or owner program management team of at least one (transportation/water/resources) infrastructure program(s) with a capital value of $350 million
  • Knowledgeable of other alternative delivery/contract models, such as public-private partnership (P3), design-build-finance-operate-maintain (DBFOM), and engineering procurement construction (EPC)
  • Experience working in an integrated fashion within a Program Management Office (PMO) comprised of consultant and client staff
  • Willingness to travel and, if needed, commute to a client's site temporarily
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field
  • Program management experience consistent with one of the following requirements:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of program management experience in a deputy role to the Program Manager for the delivery of one or more programs, with a cumulative capital value of $200 million or more, or;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of program management experience as a Project Manager or Project Controls Manager for the delivery of one or more programs, each with a capital value of $200 million or more, or;
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of project management experience as a Project Manager directing a multi-disciplinary team for the delivery of at least two (2) projects, each with a capital value of $50 million or more
  • Strong leadership skills with experience building a cohesive team culture and managing team members in various locations.
  • Excellent communication skills. Comfortable presenting to client executives and in front of a large audience in a public setting
  • Management experience with the implementation of projects or programs using alternative and collaborative delivery methods, including design-build (DB), progressive design-build (PDB), and/or construction management at-risk (CMAR)
  • Familiar with the various tools used to manage large programs - PMIS, CMIS, scheduling, cost control, document management, risk management, asset management, dashboard analytics, etc.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
