Research and Development Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing new products through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering and documentation practices.
The primary purpose of the Senior Engineer, R&D is to lead efforts to design, develop, test and refine new electromechanical medical devices for Cardinal Health. Specifically, this job assists in creation and improvements to devices such as enteral feeding pumps, thermometers and compression devices, among others. A significant amount of time in this job is spent developing test methods, overseeing test execution, organizing and analyzing test data, providing technical insights from analysis to the larger team, writing and reviewing reports, working with cross functional teams (ex. marketing, regulatory, clinical, sourcing), troubleshooting and root cause investigation, and ensuring compliance of our designs and products to various applicable standards. As part of working in a cross-functional technical environment, this job requires coordination with manufacturers, business partners and vendors, worldwide to ensure project success. This is a hybrid position in Hazelwood, MO requiring 3 days a week in the office. Responsibilities
- Drive execution of product development projects
- Troubleshoots various issues that arise pertaining to concept designs and production products through testing and computer-based statistical analysis (ANOVA, test comparisons, Monte Carlo simulations etc.).
- Develop test protocols to conform with FDA and European standards and writes test reports.
- Create and review projects, protocols, drawings, and documentation
- Interacts with external personnel on significant cross-functional programs, often requiring coordination with vendors outside the organization.
- Assist with discovering and articulating unmet customer needs
- Demonstrated effective communication skills

Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of experience, preferred
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
- Design control experience, preferred
- Problem solving & high-quality decision making
- Issue investigation, breaking down complex problems
- Attention to detail
- Team development
- Writing requirements, preferred
- Writing test procedures, preferred
- Creating and managing schedule, quickly adjusting based on changing priorities
