Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

Metra's rail operations are overseen by the Deputy Executive Director, Operations, who provides executive direction and guidance to the chief officers of the Engineering, Mechanical and Transportation departments as well as the Training and Certification and Operations Training departments. The division also provides executive oversight and direction to contract carriers (BNSF and Union Pacific) to ensure that rail operations are consistent with Metra's standards and practices.

Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director-Operations, the Data Analytics Manager-Operations Projects, gathers, analyzes, and presents data on numerous operations department projects in support of the Deputy Executive Director-Operations and reporting departments.

The primary duties include:

Analyze large and complex data sets using statistical methods including data modeling; create spreadsheets, graphs, and charts to illustrate findings; and draft clear and concise management reports. Collaborate with departments to collect, validate, and analyze data; structure large data sets; and design tools to track analyze, and store data. Prepare and present reports of findings including identifying trends and projections to aid senior leadership and department managers in making informed business decisions. Research and analyze operational issues, identify best practices, and establish processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective management operations. Establish Key Performance Indicators to measure the effectiveness of programs and business decisions. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in a Business, Computer Information Systems, or Project Management related field.
  2. In addition to #1, must have six (6) years of experience that includes project management and data management/analysis
  3. Considerable knowledge of data collection, validation, and analysis in decision making.
  4. Considerable knowledge of data management concepts.
  5. Good knowledge of data visualization design tools.
  6. Strong business acumen with the ability to make sound business decisions.
  7. Strong analytical, math, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Strong report preparation and presentation skills.
  10. Strong collaborative skills.
  11. Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with familiarity in SQL, Power BI, GIS, various Adobe products, and enterprise asset management systems such as Maximo or Service Max.
  12. Ability to extract, synthesize, manage, and analyze large amounts of complex data with attention to detail.
  13. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  14. Ability to multi-task and complete projects with competing priorities in a timely manner.
  15. Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support in assigned projects/studies.
  16. Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.

Preferred:

  1. Transportation related experience
