Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Cultural Advisor with deep expertise in Latin American cultures, with a strong emphasis on South America. The ideal candidate will provide cultural insights and linguistic expertise to support operations, planning, and engagement activities. This role is critical in shaping culturally informed strategies for messaging.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on South American cultural, social, political, and historical dynamics.
  • Provide cultural and linguistic analysis to inform operational planning and decision-making.
  • Support strategic messaging efforts, audience analysis, and narrative development.
  • Advise on culturally appropriate communication methods for diverse Latin American audiences.
  • Translate written and audio materials between Spanish, Portuguese, and English with accuracy and cultural nuance.
  • Collaborate on messaging projects using journalism, advertising, and marketing principles to ensure cultural relevance and effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and briefings on cultural awareness and engagement strategies.
  • Monitor regional trends, media landscapes, and emerging narratives that may affect operations.
  • Work closely with military and interagency partners.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • U.S. citizenship. Sponsorship for employment-based visas (e.g., H-1B, OPT, Green Card) is not available.
    Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Native or heritage Spanish speaker with exceptional proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking (ILR 3/3/3 minimum in all modalities).
  • Working knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese with proficiency at an ILR 3/3/3 minimum in reading, listening, and speaking.
  • Proven experience translating written and audio materials between Spanish, Portuguese, and English.
  • Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Anthropology, Communications, Geography, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to translate cultural insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Familiarity with strategic communications, including media, messaging, and influence strategies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including military and civilian personnel.
  • Adaptability to evolving operational requirements and emerging cultural trends.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and handle sensitive information per security protocols.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, briefings, and recommendations.
  • Ability to develop culturally tailored messaging strategies for diverse audiences.

Preferred:

  • Experience in communications, journalism, advertising, or marketing.
  • Knowledge of regional media ecosystems, information environments, and influence dynamics.
  • Awareness of U.S. military structure, operations, and interagency coordination processes.
  • Advanced degree in International Relations, Anthropology, Communications, or a related field.
  • Four or more years of experience living and working in South America.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the use of computers and standard office equipment to accomplish work objectives.
  • Occasional short-term travel may be required based on customer needs.
