Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Adams School of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics focuses on the treatment of irregularities of the teeth, jaws, and bite relationship in children and adults.
The Adams School of Dentistry, established in 1950 and made possible by an Act of the North Carolina General Assembly in 1949, is now part of a dynamic Health Science campus! The school provides oral health care to more than 90,000 patients each year and provides additional in-kind services totaling more than $3.6M annually through four student-led free dental clinics and other charitable care events. With more than 6,400 living alumni in 27 nations and all 50 states, the school's impact to oral health in North Carolina, throughout the U.S., and around the world is unprecedented. Adams School of Dentistry is at the forefront of oral health care, education, research and leadership. We are building on nearly 75 years of high-quality patient care, an evolving academic learning environment, cutting-edge research across a spectrum of science and a culture where all belong. The Adams School of Dentistry is one of six health science schools (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, Public Health) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the first dental school in the state of North Carolina. The
ASOD consists of seven (7) Academic Departments: Biomedical Sciences, Craniofacial and Surgical Care (Craniofacial Center, Geriatrics/Special Care, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Oral Medicine), Restorative Sciences (General Dentistry, Operative & Biomaterials and Prosthodontics), Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health, Orthodontics, Diagnostic Sciences (Oral Microbiology, Orofacial Pain/Sleep, Pathology and Radiology) and Periodontology, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene (one department). Currently the
ASOD has 1,099 incumbents, filling 596 faculty employees (421 non-paid adjunct status, 175 in-pay status), 77 fellows, 31 post-docs, 34
EHRA-NF regular staff employees, 5
EHRA-NF temporary staff employees 249
SHRA regular non-temporary staff employees, 41

Position Summary |
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for an open rank/open track faculty position depending on the applicant qualification in the Department of Orthodontics at the
UNC Adams School of Dentistry (
ASOD). Responsibilities include providing didactic instruction and clinical supervision for advanced education and pre-doctoral students in the dental school. This position will also participate in the Dental Faculty Practice. A record of scholarly activity is desirable, and the pursuit of scholarly activity is expected. Attractive opportunities for collaboration exist within the
ASOD, the Craniofacial Center, the academic health center, and the greater University. The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated record of achievement as an excellent clinician, teacher, mentor, leader, and care provider. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
DDS/
DMD or equivalent degree and completion of an orthodontic program. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Evidence of strong clinical practice either in an academic or private practice setting. |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
