Responsibilities
Provide mechanical technical support and mechanical discipline engineering on projects for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, piping and storage tanks at a refinery/petrochemical facility. The mechanical engineer will perform vessel designs, rerates, pipe stress analysis, review supplier drawings and welding procedures, support outages and field inspections, and lead repair projects. Normally under the direction of the Group Leader, Mechanical Engineering, duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Review and approve vessel specifications, quotation requests, and purchase requisitions prior to purchase. * Design pressure vessels. This includes design of new vessels to be made by TXO, design evaluations of vessel alterations and repairs, and checking the design of existing vessels for new operating conditions. * Prepare by directing designated drafting personnel and approve TXO pressure vessel drawings for new vessels, alterations and repairs. * Review and approve Supplier's drawings, design calculations and welding procedure specifications for purchased pressure vessels. * Review and approve PV Installation Permits and TXO PV nameplate data sheets. * Evaluate corroded or otherwise damaged vessels to determine what repairs may be necessary. * Verify required thicknesses for corroded vessels, assisting in establishing corrosion rates and future inspection intervals. * Consider and approve repairs of vessels prior to execution of repair work per applicable practices and procedures. * Evaluate existing ASME vessels and API storage tanks for changeofservice and perform rerate calculations when appropriate; prepare hydrotest procedures for API tanks as required. * Maintain copies of ASME BPV Code Section VIII1 and other related codes/industry standards including current and relevant historical editions affecting vessels at the Longview plant site. * Serve as a member of an Interpretation Committee when requested and provide interpretations of relevant practices, codes and standards. * Other duties as designated by supervision and as described in department procedures related to Fixed Equipment engineering. * Provide mechanical discipline engineering for capital projects and engineered studies and work orders. * Design, review, and repair of ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping systems including valves, piping components, and bolted joint design. * Perform piping stress analysis and activities; collaborate with pipe stress analysts and other disciplines on piping and piping support considerations. * Lead project teams or serve as technical lead on complex studies, troubleshooting efforts, or large repair projects. * Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Construction, and other engineering disciplines during normal operations and outages; support shop inspections and field inspections as required. * Provide specific technical expertise to develop or maintain engineering standards; champion implementation of improved repair and design practices.

Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering. * Minimum 3 years of pressure vessel experience or pipe stress analysis. * Knowledge of relevant ASME codes, API standards and NBIC. * Experience reviewing supplier drawings, welding procedure specifications, and performing design checks for vessels/exchangers/tanks and piping systems. * Willingness and ability to perform field inspections and support troubleshooting activities; ability to climb ladders, platforms, and scaffolding and use fall protection/harnesses when required. * Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Construction, and other engineering disciplines. Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. * 3+ years of pressure vessel experience in the refinery, petrochemical, or heavy process industries. * 3+ years of pipe stress analysis and familiarity with CAESAR II or equivalent pipe stress tools. * Experience with relevant codes and standards including ASME Section VIII, ASME Section I, ASME B31.1 and B31.3, API 650, and NBIC. * Practical experience using pressure vessel design software (such as Compress or PV Elite). * Practical experience using API 650/ 620 storage tank design software (such as AMETank). * Familiarity with welding processes. * Knowledge of material selection for corrosive environments. * Experience using PDF or drawing markup software (such as Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat Pro). * Experience with RBI (riskbased inspection), FFS (fitnessforservice) assessments, and NDT inspection. * Experience leading crossdiscipline project teams and mentoring junior engineers. * Experience with reliability-centered maintenance and capital project support in a refinery/petrochemical environment.
